Re: NCAA to interview T. Love and Julio Jones.

Mark Crabtree, the Ohio high school coach of Ohio State recruit Mike Adams, said he has never been contacted by the NCAA nor heard of the program. Adams was rated the nation's No. 3 player by Rivals.com and No. 19 by Scout.com.

"You're talking to someone up north," Crabtree said. "I'm just going to tell you, down south, I think that happens a little bit more and the NCAA gets involved with more of that."

Osburn said some players may not have been contacted due to the staff's workload.
They do this for the top 40 recruits, or only those recruits in the top 40 that sign with SEC schools?

I know this is supposedly SOP but the NCAA always makes me nervous.

Funny,, the northern coach in the article had never heard of it...
Can you say,,,,, profiling and selective enforcement???
Sure. The NCAA can't do 40, but BAMA gets 2! And a third happens to be Patrick Johnson.

Maybe nothing to it, but we ought to make a call and get the lawyers looking at it.:mad2:

If it becomes apparent that A: SEC schools are being targeted and B: There is no proof to provide a basis for singling them out, the SEC schools should fight back.

I see no problem with taking a look at the top prospects, but if they are cherry picking then they are clearly not behaving in a ethical manner. I hope this isn't the case but if it is I hope they are held accountable.

Hmm .... Fla recruited both of them very hard . Maybe there's some underlying issue concerning the gay-terds ? :conf3:

Re: NCAA to interview T. Love and Julio Jones.

Here's a hint as to why SEC players are being contacted while Big 10 players aren't:

Whose complaints do you think the NCAA is responding to? Ohio State, the cream of Big 10, has been embarrassed by SEC the past few years...they're crying foul (see Michigan President's press comments) and the NCAA is playing lip service to checking it out.

I think the NCAA realizes the disparity is merely a result of southern schools putting more emphasis, money and coaching talent into their programs than their midwestern counterparts, (ditto southern HS programs) but they have to placate the midwest "dirty recruiting" theories because they are located in Indy.

The fact is that there is simply more talent per capita in the south than anywhere else in the country. Combine that with outstanding, highly-paid coaches and top-notch facilities and the Big 10 suddenly can't compeat.

Must be a conspiracy. :) RTR.

I hope that the school and the players refuse the invitation.

I also hope that the refusal letter is writen by someone at Cunningham Bounds.

UA should not cooperate with those goons. not even a little bit. Whoever thinks this is a harmless little exercise on the part of the NZAA has been hiding under a rock since 1994. They are on a fishing expedition. They'll fish until they either find something or come up with enough imagination to make something up.

The interviews sometimes reveal NCAA violations, but "that's not the primary purpose of this," Osburn said.
In other words, it's the secondary purpose. So basically, it's an NCAA investigation into potential recruiting violations, unfairly discriminating against certain targets and allowing others a free pass. Nice. Gotta love the NCAA.

Can we as fans (and alums) bring a lawsuit against the ncaa for something? This is getting old very fast. It has already been proven in court that the ncaa lied or made false statements against Bama.

As long as Delaney is running the Big 10, the Big 10 and Pac 10 will get passes and the SEC and Bama wil get dogged. I'm really looking forward to reading this guy's obituary.

Project Intercept, the Top Prospect program's precursor, was used to unearth major violations at Oklahoma. The program was originally intended to find recruiting violations, as described here.

Stacey Osburn's statement that uncovering violations is not the primary purpose of the program is false.

I'm telling y'all, nothing good will come of this. Both Jones and Love should refuse to meet with NCAA officials without a subpoena.

"The NCAA enforcement staff runs the program mainly to determine whether the time constraints of recruits are being respected by coaches in football, men's basketball and women's basketball, said Stacey Osburn, a spokeswoman for the NCAA."

It is a bit naive to ask a recruit whether his gaining college coach respected the time constraints. What do they really expect him to say, "No. Actually, Coach ___ violated the time constraints with regularity. In fact, he is out of control."

Personally, I'd prefer that Messrs. Jones and Mr. Love tell the NCAA to go and perform an unnatural act. I know I'd like to tell them to.

Funny how the coach from up north has never heard of the program.

As stated above, this is nothing but a very thinly disguised effort by the ncaa to help the northern schools become more competitive, or, to put it plainly, to harass (scare?) the SEC into more mundane recruiting practices toward that end.

I wonder what would happen if these kids refused to be interviewed...
It's lose, lose... it is like saying "you need a warrant". A lot of people would take that as admission of guilt. I don't know exactly who they are taking a look at but I will say it should be done in a fair manner, not targeting specific schools or conferences.

By simply taking a look they are putting certain players and schools under the spotlight and if they are not taking care to insure the spotlight is equally spread out amongst the top prospects then it is a horrible disservice to the players they are singling out.

Techically I'm sure we could, but realistically it would be tossed in about two seconds. Those of us who are boosters and buy season tickets and donate money theoretically have a vested interest in the wellfare of the program but I just don't seem to think a judge would see us as a truly INTERESTED party to any litigation that involved the protection of the football department. Of course, those of us who are also citizens of the state of Alabama and our taxes pay the salaries of the employees absolutely have a vested interest in all things regarding the university; but again, a court would say that we allow our governor to appoint members of to the board of trustees and they are supposed to be paying a President to handle the affairs of the university on "our" behalf. We are treated as quasi-stock holders who have given our proxy to someone else.

Again, I think that we could if pushed come up with something that would be allowed to move forward but I just think it would be horrendously costly because this would end up being a supreme court battle in my mind and when all is said and done we'd lose.

It maybe expensive, but I am willing to donate money to the cause.... anything that would stop the ncaa from spreading lies....

Also, hasn't it been proven, by Swanks under oath testimony, that the ncaa lied to and about Bama? There is prior history......

I say slap a lawsuit aginst the ncaa, in case ANYTHING they do is suspicious..... that way, the ncaa knows that they WILL be pulled into court for any minor infraction.........

By the way, if this happened, and it ended up going to the Supreme Court, and we lost, big deal..... it would stop the ncaa from lying and would also cost them......

Well, what did we do wrong last time, expect believe the ncaa when they said they had proof......they did not.....

Alabama has a good law school, and the state has Senators and Rep is Washington, it is time for these good people to stand up..... the Congress can waste their time with baseball and steriods, let them do the same with the ncaa.....
