So we didn't get Randle.... big shock there.

But, it just builds up the hype for how much fun it will be to watch these great receivers battle it out in tuscaloosa next season. That'll be a great game to watch.

To any lsu fans on this board,... great job on your recruiting class this year, and good luck next year....(of course except for when your playing bama.):) Roll Tide

The X factor in the Julio vs Reuben debate now becomes the QB's will Star or McElroy be better than whoever qb's at LSWho?? next year.
This is the question left to be answered.
We will just have to wait it out, we alread know that greg is a capable qb to lead the tide, and don't really have a read on jackson yet, since we haven't gotten to see what he can do when it matters. But it'll also come down to how the ol performs, with us replacing lt and center we'll see how our fairly fresh line can hold up.

These two aren't in the same category talent wise. And, the recruiting services have said as much. Julio is a freak, kinda like Tebow, who comes along once every ten years. Randle is quick and versatile, but lacks the body control and raw power that Julio possesses. There was no Julio-prototype in this year's HS signees.

I'm looking forward to seeing LSWho in Tusc. and handing them another loss.

I think Randle is more comparable to AJ Green, than Jones. He's tall and quick with good hands. Julio is simply physically imposing and we haven't really had an opportunity to see him get deep and big boy people with his size and vertical. Randle is like a Reggie Wayne; Julio Jones is like Larry Fitzgerald.

I think it'll be more fun watching Randle going against Kirkpatrick.

But yeah, Randle would've been something nice to have at receiver, but I think we can cope.

I don't believe Randle is anywhere near the type of WR as were the big 3 from last year . I feel his '09 numbers , assuming he posts some , will pale in comparison to what Julio , Brown and Green accomplished last season . He's just not on their level IMHO .

I'm glad I've been on record for a couple of months about Randle so I don't have to take any comments from our "visitors" about sour grapes :)

I'll take Julio, after the catch he looks like a TE and a LOT of the time, those tough yards he gets are gonna be the difference between moving the chains or not.

Would of LOVED to have Randle to compliment Julio - but athlete's like Julio do not come around often - and i think that will be proven on the field. he is just a beast at WR! and i agree that noone in this recruiting class compares.

Julio vs. Randle just isn't a fair comparison. I thought my cousin, a coach at a larger high school in Alabama, was crazy when he said that Todd Watson (Foley) told him that as a H.S. Sr Julio was ready to start at any SEC school. I think we learned last year that Coach Watson wasn't kidding.

As far as the QBs that will be throwing the ball to these WRs...I don't know if LSU has the real deal or if they just have a QB that had a great bowl game. As CNS would say, it doesn't matter what LSU has...it only matters who we have, what we do and how we prepare. I think we will find out that the ONLY drop off for us at the QB position in '09 will be in the area of experience. McElroy will step in and make us all wonder why he wasn't playing more in the past. Star has all the talent in the world but he will never get to show Bama fans that talent if he doesn't learn the system well.

I know how talented Rueben Randle is since I watched him in person. He played against my old high school the last few years since both are in the same district. The thing is, RR was a QB last year. I am wondering how much a transition it will be to move back to WR for him?

question about Julio...

Saban said yesterday he had surgery on his shoulder. Wasn't there a thread on here about him having surgery on his wrist - with a picture of him in a cast?

have two surgeries?

I don't think our receiver corps. really could have played out better than it did on signing day. Picking up Kelly and Bell was the best thing that happened on offense as far as uncommited players go. Bell supposedly runs a 4.3 if that's true, once he gets to BAMA and puts about 20-25 pounds on him, improve his footwork, stick him in the slot and that right there is a weapon son. Kelly and Bowman have arms the size of my upper torso, throw em' out wide, and that's a dang good complement to JJ. We'll be just fine.

I'm usually pretty upset when we miss out on a big time recruit, but it really didn't bother me that we didn't get Randle. And this isn't sour grapes for me either. Just from the highlight films I've seen and the Army All-American game, I really was never all that impressed by him and I was surprised at how highly he was ranked. I'm probably wrong about this but he doesn't look terribly quick or fast and I know he isn't as strong as Julio or as athletic as AJ Green.

Julio is a beast, I don't know if RR will be even close to having his performance.

But in the last month, you guys had 37 pages devoted to him, y'all must have thought pretty highly of him at one point.

Of course, I'm surprised rivals didn't drop him to a 4 star as soon as he said he was a Tiger. :)

No we weren't talking about RR, we were wondering whos mama made the best cookies.

Seriously though, we were hoping but didn't get excited, the secret about RR going to LSU was kept about as well as Dre K. to Bama. It was one of those, there is a slight chance but don't count on it. But, like I said earlier, our receivers are going to become great players once they get coached up a bit, and same goes for yall.

37 pages ? That's all ?

I think I posted about RR 4-5 times and 2 of those were not overly complimentary . I do believe he's quite an athlete but , I believe the big 3 from '08 were unusually good . Sort of like three Calvin Johnson types in one year - all from the South :) It could be another 8-10 years before we see another trio like that one .

Big 3? Julio, AJ, and Deandre Brown?
