I agree ex. It doesn’t necessarily bother me all that much…but if I had a kid who had special needs, I’d be seeing red and demanding he make an apology right now…
This absolutely isnt directed at you crimson blood-

This is one of my all time pet peeves. I hate when someone makes a joke or uses a phrase and all of a sudden anyone who has had to deal with that topic in their own life suddenly makes it personal and demands an apology.

Examples- "That's as serious as a heart attack"
hyper knee jerk response- That is not funny!!! My grandmother just had a heart attack and you shouldnt be so insensitive.

"As funny as a cartload of dead babies"
OMG I just had a sister who miscarried, how can you say such a callous thing.

"That is retarded."
OMG my aunt has a child that is MENTALLY CHALLENGED and retarded is such a nasty word.

I have gotten militant over this lately. Whenever someone makes it personal then I play along and make it personal right with them. I respond as such-

OHHHH actually I do think a cartload of dead babies is funny, but not nearly as funny as your sister's dead baby bc that is absolutely hilarious.
or
OHHHH Im sorry, I didnt mean to talk about your aunt's retarded kid like that..... so what is that retard's name anyway?

The point is that all of us know someone with AIDS, cancer, dead babies, mentally or physically disabled people, people who have had abortions, cripples, etc etc etc. To walk around and wait for someone to use an off hand comment just so you can express full personal outrage over something that wasnt personal is my definition of being a neurotic POS. The only time people should become outraged and indignant over a comment is when it is said in a personal way and it is meant in a degrading or mean fashion. Otherwise you are just killing a conversation and making everyone uncomfortable around your hypersensitive self.

It does make a difference to me. I am not as close minded as you seem to think. He did the right thing.
exbama.

i apologize for that aside. it was an unnecessary remark, and i made it on incorrect assumptions that i had no business in making in the first place.

Al Gore is lengendary for referring to "the extra chromosome wing of the Republican Party." (Google "Al Gore extra chromosome") The right wing media took him to task for this, but the Democrat loyalists and those media outlets friendly to his side just snickered and blew it off.

I find that far more distasteful that what Obama said. Of course, Gore has never been known to blaze any trails of respect for folks that don't buy into his ideas anyway.

That's just lame.

(I apologize to everyone who has trouble walking.)

That's just gay.

(I apologize to those of you who are excessively happy.)

That's just ludicrous.
(I apologize to all the rapper's loyal fans.)

I honestly cannot tell if you are being a jerk or you are actually apologizing (the main problem with message boards).

I do think some people are overlly sensitive in this country, but what bothers me is that some people have just ignored what he said. As i said earlier, if this had been a republican president, the comment would be running nonstop on cnn and msnbc. I hate the double standard in the media (and that includes foxnews).

I'll have you know that mackin' started in Arab....you lake lovers stole it and tried to make it your own.
There is now a sign at the top of Brindlee Mountain that as you prepare to descend into Guntersville says "Warning--Mackin' Ahead"

And as you head back up it says "No Mackin' Past This Point"

It's Obama. As far as the press is concerned he just misspoke. He'll say he's sorry and how he is just another victim of a cultural problem in America that must be studied and dealt with by throwing some money (something small though, just a few billion) at some special interest group. He'll hire a disabled person to head up a new commission/department to look into it.

Now if it was a Republican, the media stories would be asking if this is a sign of the hate that really lies inside creeping out. Follows and further articles would appear regularly for a couple of weeks, and regurgitations would randomly appear in articles for a much longer. That's just part of the deal.
