The 2009-10 Coaching Carousel Has Begun--Tommy West First

Tommy West fired. Possible replacements--Auburn's last two head coaches.

WKU Cans Elson.

Also, both Wiess and Rodriguez are on hot seats and may not survive. Sorry, the link won't work for Rich Rod's story. But the AD who hired him retires this year and the PTB have been overheard saying that while he might be a good coach, he's not our coach.

Looks like it's going to be a busy carousel this year--there's still a month of football left to play, and teams are already angling for position.

Rich Rod stands a good chance of getting fired. The guy has been nothing short of a disaster. I imagine quite a few WVU fans are getting a chuckle at ole RichRod's expense.

I just don't see RR getting canned in year two. I think next year is his "hot seat" season.

Could be, the only reason I say possibly is because I don't think a lot of the old "michigan family" types have accepted him, nor do they plan on doing so. I just don't see him working out there. I think they finish 5-7 with a losing record for the second straight season and miss another bowl. That might cause them to intervene.

Here's more on Weis' shaky hold on the job in South Bend: Deal Breaker?

Here's a money quote from one of Notre Dame's standout LB's:

"There's never been a Notre Dame team that lost to Navy twice in the past 50 years," said linebacker Brian Smith, who obviously did his research before his post-game interview. "We beat them 43 straight times and I've lost to them twice already. It's frustrating."

Ouch. That would be like Bama losing to Vandy twice in a row.

Michigan should Hire Cincy's Coach..... the man can coach some ball.

IMO best HC who would be available. RR should get another year, but with the NCAA's investigation looming sometime on the horizon and failure in year 2 the Michigan folks might pay him off and sign on Brian Kelly.

As for the Memphis HC job, much like MSU dead end. Don't think Tubs would go there but Tater Tot might jump at the chance. Other possible vacancies at the end of the year:

Louisville
Maryland
Washington State
Boston College
Notre Dame
Illinois
Virginia
Central Florida

I hav thought about this as a possibility for Tuberville....

Maybe get back in the game as a DC, if the right HC job does not open up.

First two in my mind would be ATM and FSU.

***tommy west - must see video***

You have to watch this video...not your typical post-firing press conference. Tommy West basically goes off and calls Memphis a crappy program. Too funny! Gets good at about 50 second mark and then gets really good about the 1:30 mark.

Tommy West fired, and fired up

Can't say that I disagree with him about the coverage in the Memphis paper (Commercial Appeal).

The word through the grapevine in Memphis...from the sister-of-law of the pool boy for the cousin of the guy who gets his haircut at the same place the Memphis AD goes...is that Phillip Fulmer will be the next coach at Memphis. He'll serve as coach 2 days a week and spend the other 5 secretly policing recruiting in the area for the NCAA.

I was wondering if anyone had heard from Jack d R yet. :p

Dan Patrick (yeah...didn't have my itrip with me this morning...;) ) pondered Brian Kelly to ND when they fire Chuckles, and Jim Harbaugh to Mich when they axe ritarod & what's his name. Both Kelly and Harbaugh would be pretty good hires imo. I gotta say, though, I'm liking both UMich and our lady right where they are right now.

The locals having been rumoring Jeff Bower to Memphis for a year or two in the fwiw dept. Of course, they rumored JB for every open position in the last couple of years. To my knowledge, there have been precisely zero serious inquiries...

Of course, the interesting scenarios would be if UMich cans ritarod & hires Les Miles, and the irish can Chuck & hire Pope Urban...

Chuckie, er Jon Gruden has also been mentioned as a future irish coach.

One more: also heard talk of one of the Bowden bros @ UAB when they create a vacancy.

p.s. - I'm just glad to be watching idly rather than worrying about all this!
