I am a retired old coot and my bride and I travel all over this great land. In early October we covered New England to see the fall colors. As always, I wore with pride my Bama shirt. All over Pa,NY,Vt,Ct,Ma, and Mass, I heard Roll Tide and Go Bama and received high fives. Several would call Bama players by name or position and say we had the best coaching staff in the country. By the time I got home I had gained ten pounds, two from food, two from water retention and six from just plain old puffed up Alabama Crimson Tide Pride.

Happy Thanksgiving to the best Fans in the World

I heard it in Vegas last December a week before the SECCG. and my son, who is in the Air Force has been hearing it in England all year....

i guess you can say we are international now....he also hears "lord i can't stand Tebow" as much as he hears "Roll Tide" across the pond.

Coach Bryant had the same effect on people. There are many, many Tide fans who became that way because in the 60s, Alabama football was one of the few things the state could actually be proud of. So, transplants to other areas of the country could be proud of their state knowing Yankees and Midwesterners could respect them for their football team.

Funny story...I was the manager of the men's track team while at Alabama and we had several Jamaican athletes on the team. One trip out to Colorado Springs for a track meet, we boarded the plane and I picked up the in-flight magazine. I turned to an article about Jamaica and there front and center was a little 5 year old Jamaican boy wearing a crimson shirt with "BAMA" in white on it. I turned to our Jamaicans and they just laughed.

Great stuff! You know with all the national publicity Coach Saban gets and the constant exposure of our games on national television it's not hard to understand that we my indeed have become America's team.

I think there's a motive behind every move Coach Saban makes in an effort to benefit the Bama program.

Notice the difference in his personality when he's interviewing with ESPN as opposed to the local beat writers. It's night and day. Angel to Beelzebub...lol

And don't think he did the ESPN commercial or took a part in "The Blind Side" because he wants to be a TV commentator or a movie star. It's for more nation wide publicity for his program.

In addition, his recruiting on more of a national basis means we've got kids from all over. Bama for sure is one of the favorite college teams now in Flint, Michigan, Ingrams home town, or Miami, Cody's home town, or the town in Texas where GMAC is from.

I know Bama is Alabama's team. But yes, I do believe it's spreading around our entire country.

RTR! Thanks for the great post!

sip

I have had those same experiences in my Air Force career. From remote sites in Alaska, to Japan, to the Middle East. When we used to get USO shows they would eventually ask where your from and as soon as you say Alabama, they would ask who your team was. The response was a resounding "The Crimson Tide of course" and the place would erupt with cheers and Roll Tides. Brought tears to your eyes sometimes. Even now when I work for the Army, I always wear my Bama gear and the funniest thing is while at Ft. Hood (bless them) from way across a quad came a distant Roll Tide so of course the Sgt and I had to do some talking. What was funnier is I'm deep in the heart of Texas. ;) :BigA:

I'm down here on Grand Cayman Island visiting my daughter (Bama '98) for Thanksgiving and have already heard a couple of ROLL TIDES on the beach and in town.

Happy Thanksgiving to the Bama nation. God bless our troups all over the world. And a big ROLLLLLL TIDE ROLLLLLL to all!!

Love the places you hear ROLL TIDE ROLL. Back in the day my Commanding Officer (OSU Grad) had an extra ticket (his wife was going to wedding) and ask if I would like to go to the OSU vs MICHIGAN game. I said, OH YES. It was November 21st, 1998: Ohio State 31 Michigan 16 game.

I told my CO I did not have any OSU gear and he said wear something RED. I did. :pDT_Armataz_01_34: As he and I entered the stadium a tall blonde (lady) yells ROLL TIDE ROLL. I yelled back in kind and the man behind us asked his friend "What game is this?"

I wore an Alabama jersey (#37) that I picked up in Huntsville (Hibbits I Think). The Jersey was like new I had only wore it twice.

:biga2: Alabama is America's Team. :biga2: Has a nice ring to it.

It is America's team. I was in PA towards the end of the season last year and a guy I met had a NOBAMA (NO OBAMA) sticker on his truck. I asked him if he was that dead set against Bama football. We talked football (of course he was a Penn State fan) and by the time I left he had put a sticky letter over the N to make it read GOBAMA.

Maybe its cause I easily recognize and so often notice Alabama football "stuff" but I have to say there has been a lot of Bama pride being shown here in Hawaii, especially on Schofield Barracks. There are probably 10-12 cars and trucks I see all the time with flags, decals, and stickers... And more and more lately you see the t-shirts and ball caps. It's crazy. I love it but I part of me knows that a select slice of those folks are total bandwagoners... But that doesn't matter - Bama is strong baby, very strong!

I was in St. Louis earlier this year and a guy asked me where I was from, and I answered Alabama. He said, without hesitating, "Oh, Roll Tide then!"

Can you imagine what the Auburn fans must think when they get that? Because you know they do. It's just the default setting for anyone who is from Alabama.

I live here in Columbia,MO and work in a pretty big office building and alot of the people around here that I've gotten to know are becoming Bama "fans" because of their associations with me. It really is cool.

Also, the nurse at my daughter's school attended UA.

About a month ago I was driving home and pulled up to a stop light and a black truck pulled up beside me and rolled his window down and hollared "Roll Tide" and brought out his Alabama hat and said he had gone there for a little bit and had loved it.

JessN, if you ever get over here around Columbia,MO send me a message before you come up and I'll at least cook some steaks or BBQ for you. That goes for anyone else on here as well.

I commonly get a solid "Roll Tide" when I wear my crimson swag around the bay area. Yesterday at the gym was the most recent event.

I mentioned this a few weeks back and thought it was relevant for this thread to bring back up.

I was in Phenoix Az in a sports bar waiting for my plane. I wasn't identifiable as a Bama fan but merely watching the Red River shootout. This avid Texas fan (decked out in a burnt orange football jersey) was about 10 feet from where I was and was broadcasting his thought about the game. At one point he made the comment about how Bama was the best looking team in the nation right now. It just fascinated me that we would be getting lip service on the other side of the country during what amounts to for him the Alabama/Tennessee game out of the blue. All of this just makes me think its our year and Saban is doing his job, i.e. putting fear and respect in fanbase's across the nation.
