It's a crystal clear fact that the two highest ranked undefeated teams will play for the national title yet according to a 5 minute rant from Fowler this is "a dangerous assumption" . What ? I've seen some idiotic segments on ESPN over the years and this one was possibly the dumbest of them all .

I actually agreed with most of what he said. He basically stated that Bama deserved to be in the BCSCG, but that it as dangerous to assume Texas would be. The Horns did not look like a dominant team that is head and shoulders above TCU and Cincy.

Obviously, Texas will very likely play us, but I think TCU and Cincy merit discussion.

He just wanted to preach a bit about needing a playoff...if he can't figure out who should be playing for a national championship, then maybe he should find another job like being a Walmart greeter.

But, to the one's who actually vote, he has a point. Is Texas worthy of #2 right now?

We had a big discussion earlier this year about how pollsters vote. Do they just bump #2 up to #1 if the previous #1 loses? Or do they vote based on performances from week to week?

I think we'll see a close 2-4 in the human polls tomorrow.

All that said, SEC> Big 12 > Big East/Mountain West and I think Texas will still be #2.

he knows as well as anyone that Alabama/Texas is the game, but he ESPN is televising the bowl selections tomorrow, so he has to try and create some level of uncertainty.

I saw that too. How did you like the way he danced around the question "So Chris, do you think Bama is the best team in america?". Very pc answer with "well they are deserving to be favored in the NC game".

If we're talking about "right now" then why does Cincy deserve a shot? Anybody watch them play today? They had to come back from almost 20 pts, their starting qb was about one play from getting benched and their defense couldn't stop Lou Holtz.

I agree with Herbie. You look at their full body of work. We've got people who keep asking the question "Why shouldn't TCU and Cincy get a shot?" Well, why shouldn't Alabama and Texas get a shot? Texas and Alabama have the tougher road to get 13-0.

If Bama and Texas aren't in it I'll be utterly shocked.

He did make a good point. 2/3 of the BCS formula deals with the human element. Given that Texas was less than dominant this evening, you could have some voters throw some votes towards TCU or Cincinnati. If enough voters do that, you could have 2/3 of the formula where Texas isn't ranked #2.

Having said that, there is no way that will happen. It will be stupid to leave an undefeated Big-12 team out of the title game in favor of a Big East or Mountain West school.

While I agree that he is reaching to stir the pot a little bit, you have to admit that TCU/CINCY have to be considered. When it comes down to it, there is absolutely NO way Texas will fall to #3, but I can only imagine the fallout had NEB been able to pull the upset. I am just glad that BAMA took care of business and is 100% locked into the NC game! ROLL TIDE!

To be contrary, were we deserving of #2 after the BarnFarm game?? Texas has earned the #2 spot. Why?? Nobody has manned up to take it away from them.

{Sarcasm}But why not? The MWC and Big East are tough conferences. To me its a no brainer that if either TCU or Cincy doesn't get it in it is obvious that the two best teams aren't playing. {End of Sarcasm}

These people pushing for TCU and Cincy have built these non BCS teams up so much that I think it's starting to get into mythical and urban legend.
