And there's more smoke hinting at the fire beneath the surface.

For the longest time I was in the camp that believed the worst U$C would get was a slap on the wrist.

Now, I'm not so sure. I've got a growing feeling that they'll get hit pretty hard. Not nearly as hard as we were, mind you, but hard nonetheless.

The real question is, if they have to forfeit thos NCs, will UCLA boosters put up a billboard that says "NO-PEAT"? :)

The article says Bush's deposition on April 23rd will play a part in the NCAA penalties, but I wonder if that is really the case. U$C has already had their hearing without this information. Typically you wouldn't consider evidence obtained after the hearing. Of course we all know the NCAA makes up the rules as they go along and doesn't mind breaking their own rules, so I suppose if they want to consider the deposition they certainly can. I guess the REAL question is does the NCAA WANT to consider this testimony. Maybe that depends on what Bush testifies to, if he contradicts Lake's account that may give them justification to give the football program a love tap. It's also possible that the NCAA is peeved at Bush and U$C for not cooperating and embarrassed by the whole affair and will consider everything. I wouldn't place a bet one way or the other.

All the information from this deposition will be forwarded to the NCAA. The NCAA has to look at this, it would be negligent if it did not.

I read the article and I agree with the statement about taking away wins back then is like giving a dead man a ticket. They do have a lot to give up from that time period though unlike FSU in which lost regular games not championships or a Heisman trophy.

The NCAA SHOULD look at this, but whether they will or not is completely up to them. They rarely follow their own rules or precedent, so no one really knows what they heck they are going to do. The NCAA is so corrupt in its rules enforcement that no ones knows what to expect anymore.

Vacating wins or taking away awards is not punishment that is going to have much if any effect of changing future behavior, or disciplining for past behavior. The only reasonable penalty that will do anything to punish USC is a large loss in scholarships. Otherwise, they'll keep just trucking along as normal.

A barner friend of mine who know a member of the COI that they are so ....ed at USC that they will cut Bama's scholarships in half.I hope USC gets hammered because it seems like they were (are?) out of control and think they are untouchable. Thank goodness Kiffy was brought in to straighten out that mess.

You can't "lose" a Heisman Trophy due to NCAA sanctions. It is awarded by the Downtown Athletic Club of NYC, not the NCAA. Reggie will always have that.

I'm not suprised they settled out of court. If the NCAA believes Bush received those benefits while at U$C they will get the hammer. Just because Bush isn't talking doesn't mean it didn't happen.
