Arky has struggled in moments of their games. If I remember correctly, their first game of the season was quite shaky in the first half.
I don't know about their first game but they played UL-Monroe the week before UGA in Little Rock, which was the first game for the Warhawks. ULM played them pretty tight in the 1rst half despite the rust from not playing opening weekend and held Arkansas to something like a 7 point lead going into halftime. Lots of aggrivated Hog fans and lots of boos from what I heard, but Arkansas played very vanilla and never really opened up Air Mallett since they comfortably took the lead over the overmatched Warhawks late in the game. For that reason, I was expecting Arkansas to come out slinging and roll over UGA on Saturday. Needless to say, I was somewhat disappointed and a little under-impressed with them although they may be saving all the good stuff for Bama. I still think they are going to have to sell to stop the run and that still probably will not be enough to stop the Ingram/Richardson freight train. Stacking the box means lots of man coverage and you don't want to do that against Julio because GMac can beat them with his arm if he has to.

They may score some but we will score alot more.

Last year we heard it from 14 fan bases of 14 teams that thought all they had to do was shut down Bama's running game and make McElroy throw the ball. ALL 14 fell to defeat. Come Saturday the pigs will find out for a second time that McElroy WILL beat you with his arm if he needs to. Or just go ask Myer and Tebow if he can throw the ball, can you say SEC Championship game MVP? sure I knew you could, and surely he did not get any better over the off season.

So, please stack the box, I'm sure Juilo and company will love that.

Very good points...I'd say PSU and UGA are about even...UGA is more hype than substance and everybody knows it; Plus Arky had to score last minute to beat them, while Bama handled PSU comfortably & put it on cruise in that game, it was never in doubt.
I'd say Bama and Arky have played equivalent teams so far. Arky has struggled in moments of their games. If I remember correctly, their first game of the season was quite shaky in the first half.
But you're right, I think it will be a nice measuring stick for both teams this weekend.
I agree, you know your football and I also agree with what jdevers said in the Arky thread,
The things in our favor this year versus last are pretty simple. Our QB is more mature, our defense is at least acceptable across the board, their secondary is young, and we are playing at RRS instead of BDS. Against us is that their offense appears to be MUCH more dependable than last year and is stacked with experienced talent and that while their secondary is young, it is bigger and more talented than last year.
This game will be the biggest challenge either team has faced this year. Who ever loses this head-to-head contest will need a miracle to reach Atlanta.
As for the rest of the thread, I don't see them as delusional. I see them as Arkansas fans on a Arkansas board; they love their hogs.

My biggest concern is the poor tackling of our linebackers, and Kirkpatrick on the corner. IMO we have got to improve on our tackling across the board. Kirkpatrick is a great talent, no doubt, but watching him in the first three games he reminds me somewhat of Jeremiah Casteel, not a real disciplined player. Great play followed by a missed assignment. Arkansas has big, fast talented receivers and our secondary will have to step up or it could be a long afternoon in Fayetteville.

I'm not positive on the numbers, but didn't GM throw for about 280 yards and 3 TDs against them last year? Not sure about their definition of "beating someone with his arm"...

Ya some of those people posting dont have the brightest football IQ. I love how people judge matchups in the trenches by height and weight alone. Like our guy outweighs your guy by 10 lbs so we win that matchup. Needless to say your guy is a second year 2 star and our guy is going in the top 10 in the draft next year. But its all even based on weight mind you. I fear that any team that doubts GMac will get their britches burnt.

If Bama plays the way we are capable of playing, we'll win the game by 3 TDs or more. Id say it would be 4 TDs if we were playing at home. Arky is too one dimensional on offense. And their defense will not be able to stop us from scoring. I'm gonna say Bama 35, Arky 14.

Yep, if we show up and play like we're capable of, the score is going to look a lot like 2008 & 2009...

It seems that Arkansas is the new Texas. Talk about how much better your quarterback is then ours, and how he's better than our Heisman trophy winner. I wonder what they're excuse will be?

Are they really blaming the refs for last year's beat down?
no...no one denies last year was a beatdown

a lot of the "refs are against us" sentiment dates back to last year's game against Florida - the team of refs was actually suspended after that game for making bad calls and if I remember right it is the only time that has ever happened

the refs really did hand that game to Florida

then against Georgia there were some bad calls late in the game that pushed the dawgs down the field - the most obvious one was the holding non-call

Ya I feel ya. I can remember cussing at some refs after we lost a game once where a receiver caught a ball after it bounced on the turf in the endzone and we lost the game.

Can I be honest?
I live up here amongst these Hog fans and I can honestly tell you that they believe they will win this game. I just laugh and say okay sure. I know that the game will be over by half time. Because they do not finish the game and by the time we have rotated through our inventory of fresh studs, the stadium will be half empty except for Bama fans waiting to sing Yellow Hammer!!! Please do me a huge favor Coach Saban and put a beat down on the piglets!
Oh, I'm not bitter at all. I'm just a realist. :biggrin::wink:

The fact that Arkansas has a very talented core of recievers that outsize our db's isnt lost on us Bama fans. If they rely on technique and their ball skills I feel ok about the matchup. If they get frizzled I will be worried. The only thing that gives me solice at this point is that we have the best offense at Bama maybe ever or at least since the 70's. That and we have our playmaker's in every aspect of the game, for example Trent returning kickoff's and Julio returning punts. The odds stack up in our favor at this point but all it takes is a bad day by some of our players and we could lose. But if we show up and play our game and execute I dont think anyone could beat us. But I hope we do you proud/

I can't believe they would be dumb enough to say McElroy has never won a game with his arm. Arky loaded up the box last year and Greg torched them for 291 yards and 3 TDs.

Sagarin Ratings:
Penn St. = 22
GA = 42
Duke = 86
San Jose State = 103
ULM = 141
TN Tech = 155

Arkansas struggled with LA-Monroe into the 4th quarter and with GA until the final minute. Bama has struggled with no one while playing a tougher schedule.

Mallet threw his final TD against ULM with 3 minutes left in the game and up by 17. Stat padding if there ever was.

I see this game playing out very similar to last year's game, with Ark probably scoring more than 7 while also giving up more than 35 and the margin of victory for Bama being similar to last year. JMO.
