Devastating Tornado Damage in Tuscaloosa

I feel like I'm reliving one of the worst days of my life. On April 10th, 1979, a funnel cloud with three distinct hooks in it, roared through Wichita Falls, Tx. I was driving back from a meeting in Dallas and watched from a DPS road block on the east side of the city.

10,000 homes were destroyed, 8000 automobiles were destroyed, and over 50 people were killed. The storm cut a mile wide path through the city and was on the ground for about 8 miles. My entire family was in town and I had no idea whether they were dead or alive. Fortunately, we came through unscathed.

I lived in WF for 20 years and it is right in the heart of tornado alley but I've seen nothing to compare to that event in 1979. I can only pray that everyone survives and is safe in today's event. The physical damage is fixable but life is precious. I am praying for all of Alabama. You guys be safe.

Does anyone have any news in the Arab area? I've been trying to reach my parents for awhile and all circuits are busy or down. I saw that it was in Cullman possibly headed that way. I do hope you all are ok!!!

6 confirmed deaths. My granddad said the Jet-Pep, past the Warehouse Grocery toward Huntsville is gone.

Hey guys, Thoughts and prayers from Arkansas and Hogville.net. Be strong and ya'll will get through this. God Speed.

Hackleburg, Alabama - Home of Sonny James - in Marion County has been wiped off the face of the map. Town has roughly 1500 people and every building in the town is leveled. No hospital or emergency facilities available in this town. People are wandering around in the dark looking for people.

Reminds of me what happened to Guin back in the early 70s.

If you are unemployed right now, your neighbor needs you right now. Lend a hand you never know what sort blessing will be on the other side for you.

wow. i talked to my folks in haleyville and my dad told me he heard several of the towns in that area are gone. i never thought we would see anything like the Guin/Jasper tragedy again, and it sounds like this may be worse.

Just heard from a friend who is an asst coach for UA, was told multiple students have been killed. (Did not ask if they were athletes or not) Was told to pray b/c the numbers may be a lot more than a couple.....

I'm heartbroken over all of this. I feel like my own home has been destroyed. Tuscaloosa was my home for four years. I hope and pray this report is wrong.

This reminds me of Jerrel, TX several years ago. A F5 wiped the small town off the face of the Earth. Many houses were stripped to the foundation.

God be with all of those that have lost loved ones today. Many lives will never be the same after today.

I watched in horror as the weather channel showed a live feed of the tornado as it plowed through both Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. I don't ever recall having such a helpless feeling in my life.

my goodness....I heard Phil Campbell is in about the same condition. God bless.

I worked at Chick-Fil-A in the mall and the free standing unit across the street when I was in school in the early 90's. Any word on how they faired?

Re: reports of major tornado damage in T-twon

?

Little help?
A person from 103.7 reported on Facbook..

"I have spoken with a friend of mine that works at the hospital in Tuscaloosa. She said that there are hundreds of fatalities that haven't been reported yet. A housing project was completely leveled and that's where the deaths are. To quote emergency workers, "bodies laying everywhere!"

WOW..Check out this post on Facebook from someone that has a friend that works at the Tuscaloosa Hospital..I sure hope this is wrong..CLICK ME

I pray this is a false report. I could believe it considering the footage I've seen, but have a hard time believing it could be kept quiet for this long. The thought of this makes me sick to my stomach.
