So will Auburn dust off the wishbone Saturday?

They have enough trouble consistently executing their own offense. To try and throw together some gimmicks at the 11th hour based on some tape against one team (that executes the option as good as anyone) would seal Auburn's doom.

I'm sure there will be plenty of Aub's pulling apart the turkey wishbone on Thursday. For their sake, I hope they don't have to dust that off because that's a health hazard.

I certainly hope they do! That's not something you install in a week, and if they do, there will be tons of TFL's and fumbles.
I'm not an X's and O's person at all, but from what I understand, GSU is successful, based on precision timing, which I imagine has taken them many weeks of practice. Don't they run the play clock almost to 0 before snapping the ball?

Of course they are not gonna go full wishbone, but they would be stupid not to try a heavy dose of double and even triple option using Frazier/Dyer after we've shown a decisive weakness against LSU and Georgia Southern in defending it.

It takes literally months to install an option and run it as well as GSU does. It's absolutely not something you could do in a week, regardless of the talent - the timing and reads just take tons of practice.

Doesn't mean they won't throw in a play or two as a wrinkle, but part of GSU's success was based on their proficiency running that offense, and part of it was also due to the fact that we had three starting DL sitting on the bench.

My U. of Auburn acquaintances are hoping for the "moral victory" Saturday. That being, denying us style points = hopefully less than a 14 point loss. Remember, they never get beat, they just get outscored.

I don't know, but linebackers need to hit the quarterback whether he pitches the ball or not.
Make them pay for the deception.

The triple option is a precision offense that takes time and practice to get the timing of it down. One of our problems against Georgia Southern was not getting a good push to stop the dive portion of the triple option. I believe if Chapman, Gentry, and Willams had played we would have gotten enough push on them to disrupt their timing and execution.

LSU ran some portion of it but were no where as successful as Georgia Southern was because of the our push up front.

I believe we will see Frazier in this game because of his ability to run the football and try to stretch the field. I believe we will see some form of an option from them. We know and they know Moseley is not going to beat us backing up and throwing and handing off to Dyer. They have nothing to lose. They are going to try and do the best they can to throw everything at us, sink or swim.

The wishbone offense is designed to fool over pursuing defenses and compensate for a team lacking talent, which makes Auburn the perfect team to run it. But you cannot install it in a week, either. It's high risk as well (the 1981 Tide had been running it for 10 years and had 50 fumbles in 11 games, losing 23 drops). I'm sure they'll run a flea flicker but I just hope we maul them 2008 style.

According to CGC... The answer is NO.

Question asked to CGC: Will you put in the triple option for Bama?

"Not unless I find an option quarterback here in the next 24 hours. I have watched the film and Georgia Southern did a good job. It's a difficult offense to defend because you don't see it very often. But no, we're going to do what we do."

And three extra weeks to practice it! As a UA student in the '70s when the wishbone was all that we did on offense (or at least 95%), I still have memories of pitches going behind trailing runners.

I anticipate a lot of their read option running with Frazier and Dyer with McCaleb as the pitch man. It is au's best chance to control the ball with running plays to in affect shorten the game. They are not stupid and know they cannot go head to head with us so it will be the usual from Gus and the boys, lots of misdirection, speed sweeps and that god awful everybody to the right and throw to a wide open Lutzenkurchen on the left. I hate that damn play and I hope if they run it Mark Barron is their to take his damn head off.

The bone is as harder to install in one week than it is to defend it. What we saw at GSU was a bone that is run as good as any Bama triple option that I ever saw, considering the players they had. They have been perfecting this offense for many years and you don't teach what I saw in a week.

I doubt it will be used seriously but knowing the barn and their desperate need to win at any cost they are likely to sprinkle some option/trickery in. Beware the onside kick...
