So many things wrong with the way this is viewed in America right now from both sides, lefties and righties.
Righties need to stop using religion as a weapon. They need to stop wearing the word “bigot” as a badge of honor. Please stop saying things like “I’ve got the truth on my side,” and letting yourself be puffed up by that. It’s selfish and it makes you look foolish.
Lefties need to stop preaching about tolerance while openly acting in intolerant ways. Tolerance is not demanding that we deviate from our beliefs so that we can all feel good about everyone. That’s not real life and it is, in fact, intolerant. A lot of you are right, a large portion of this fight is being waged by people who are just made uncomfortable by how you live your lives. And that also is a cause I can’t get behind.
This whole thing is stupid in so many ways. You can't legislate the Gospel. Crusading to squash same-sex marriage won't solve any of our problems. I’m not angry with North Carolina for going to the ballot box with convictions, I just feel like this is the wrong fight.

I have to be honest. Reading through that article, it is the only time I've ever felt Obama was being sincere.
Wouldn't it be a lot easier if the government got out of recognizing "marriages" as a whole? Allow the various religious institutions to recognize whatever they want to define as "marriage". In terms of governmental benefits and such (All the legal issues that are awarded a spouse), recognize a civil union or whatever else you want to call it.
When you open it up to our representative Republic -- and it gets defeated over and over again.......that this isn't something that the majority of Americans want or are comfortable with.
I've heard people compare this to Slavery and Women's Suffrage -- but unless someone can show me how maintaining the Status Quo on this subject is comparable to those, I'd be happy to listen

This is why this does not necessarily help Obama politically. This could very well lose the election for him.
He covered his bases by also stating it should be a state by state issue... not a federal issue.
If this is what loses the election for him, America deserves a swift kick in the nuts.

Please let the gays get married. Maybe they'll help lower that 50% divorce rate we breeders are so incapable of lowering ourselves.
The divorce rate is that high cause of the women breeders. Cant live with yall and when we find one we can "talk" to, yall throw us out.
I know it's been said before, but I'm still at a loss as to why all the "sanctity of marriage" proponents don't push for amendments to outlaw divorce.
