In related news, I'd like to announce that I have signed a deal to fight Floyd Mayweather as soon as I defeat Manny Pacquiao. I deserve this because my record in fistfights over the past 15 years is slightly better than Notre Dame's bowl record over the same period.

I think N.Dame is just protecting themselves. I am not sure of the reason for the hate. Let them play the ACC champ when they win 9 or 10 games. Where else are they going to play? Why does it impact Alabama, the SEC will not be affected. The Orange Bowl used to have an arrangement with the Big Least, the Big least is about done.

If the Orange Bowl puts the ACC champ against Notre Dame every year, they can expect to pull the same numbers as NBC does for showing Notre Dame football every Saturday. That's it. The game will rarely matter or be relevant to most big-time college football fans. Then again, this year, Notre Dame and FSU or Clemson may make an interesting match-up.

I have no problem with them going to the Orange Bowl, provided they develop a winning program, get ranked high enough to be worthy of a BCS Bowl invite and such just like everybody else. Otherwise I'm OK with them gracing the cover of the B'ham Bowl or maybe the Potato Bowl Programs, cause that is more in line with the current state of their program.

And let me guess... Boise should have a deal with the Rose Bowl?

The wording in that little article was interesting. It said it would give Notre Dame a landing spot in years that they were good enough to play in a top tier bowl but didn't make the playoff. I am fine with that except that they think they are good enough to play in a top tier bowl with eight wins. If they are in the top ten or twelve teams in the country, I have no problem with it because they would deserve it just like any other team. If they are 8-4 and unranked or ranked number 25, they wouldn't deserve it.

I don't see an issue here. Notre Dame is just looking out for their best interests.

If the Orange Bowl wants to further reduce their stature as a significant bowl game by having an 8 win Notre Dame every year, I have no issue with that either.

Irrelevant bowl + irrelevant team = match made in heaven.

I'm okay with this with the provision that they must win at least 10 games to get the invitation.
I agree, and I actually hope Notre Dame returns to playing top-tier football for a while. I have almost forgotten what it is like to dislike them. It is difficult to dislike something when it is pitiful. I don't think most people hated us nearly as much during the Dumbose and Sheila years, but, man, I can tell that there are some Bama haters out in full force these days.

I think under the BCS, they got an automatic bid to a BCS bowl if they finished in the top 12 of the final BCS standings.

Without doing any research I would say any conference champion would probably have to win at least 10 games. If the idea is to put the best teams in the 4 major bowls and, I would assume some preference would be given to conference champions, then ND should have to win 10 games minimum in order to play the ACC champs in the Orange Bowl.

The real question that should be asked is, "does Notre Dame have any pride at all?" They want everything given to them because of who they are. They should earn it, and if they do, let them go to a BCS bowl. If they get in and they truly didn't earn it, then they will just get embarassed over and over again. Alabama earns the respect and hatred from these other schools. Notre Dame has done nothing of late (20 years) to have a seat at the table with the big boys.

With the current grade requirements coupled with playing football in freezing cold, ND will never be relevant again. The best talent is here in the south. Try and convince someone to go freeze their tail off up there from here. Most of the good talent in the midwest wants to come here (See Mark Ingram and Trey DePreist)
