Hindsite is wonderful but unfortunately one cannot wait years before making painful decisions while the fate of the country might be at stake.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid the answer is YES. And fwiw, I'd be truly afraid to see how the present administration would react in a similar circumstance. Obama would probably ignore the whole thing while he went on yet another vacation.

I didn't say they wouldn't but that's not my point. Democrats hated Bush but seem okay with Obama doing the very things they hated Bush doing. A little double standard if you will, so just beecause Bush opened the box doesn't mean anything to me, getting it closed does. We can't get it closed with people who support this President now being okay with this or not saying anything. Bush got away with this because people were afraid after 9/11 and he pushed it futher and futher, but now Obama is taking it too the next level while birds are chirping.

This isn't new. And they didn't just hand over the cell phone data. It's probably much worse. It has been rumored that the NSA has been plugged directly into the telco's for years collecting info real time.

All my ranting and raving about the Patriot Act is now coming true. For my own part, I feel vindicated. For the nation's part, though, it would have been better if I had been proven wrong.

I swear... never again will I vote for a Democrat or Republican in a national election. May not mean a thing in the grand scheme, but it will mean something to me.

Bush the Elder was the one who convinced me. I've been Independent/Libertarian since the early 90's. I can't stop them from "fundamentally changing" the country I love, but they won't have my stamp of approval while they're doing it.

Put it to the test, if you like. We could ponder whether or not Obama would have done the same thing, but it appears to me that all the things his administration has done that everyone is so up in arms about, is nothing more than using guidelines put in place by the Bush administration.

No, I haven't forgotten 9/11. It's burned into my memory. I also haven't forgotten what I learned about the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, and the writing of the Constitution.

This kind of thing is not ok. It may provide safety in the short term, but it will not lead us to a place we like.

And if you'd like to argue that the Bush Administration passed the Patriot Act with nothing but good intentions, and they couldn't foresee what it would lead to, then I've got some beach front property on Sand Mountain that I'd like to sell you.
