The HUNH is the answer to what we did to college football the last few years. We decided we were going to get bigger than everyone and just bully them. The HUNH neutralized that. We've been slow to react to it. We are going to have to change what we do and get smaller/faster to defend it. Otherwise you'll have to hope the offense is clicking and we just outscore the other team like A&M, and A&M showed you don't want to have to rely on that week in and week out.

Tricky part is we can't change too much or teams like LSU and ARK who want to pound the ball are going to give us issues.

As an outsider I don't read much into this game except for this: Oklahoma wanted to be there, Alabama didn't. You play them in the regular season, you probably beat them 40-7. After we lost to Stanford we didn't show up to play Arizona. We didn't want to be there, we didn't care, and it showed. Maybe the same thing happened tonight? I think Bama is the better team by far if you're comparing Oklahoma to Alabama, it was just a difference of motivation.

I think that we will have to adapt to the players we are recruiting, as well as changing the defense. Too many times, we seemed to be a bit slow of foot. We have our guys bulked up to stop the power game when the trend seems to be going away from that, towards a fast-paced game based more on deception. Of course, in the second half, fatigue started to have a role in the slow feet. The HUNH is not going to go away, so we'd better head our defensive thinking in the direction of stopping it. I see more and more teams adopting it at the college level...

It's effective when you play a defense that relies on specialists. The solution, it would seem to me, is to play more every down, all-purpose defensive players. That and get a pass rusher. A solid pass rush does a lot to disrupt that type of offense.

Let's not mistake things though...tonight was partially a depth issue. We had some injuries in some key positions that really cost us. Sunseri alone would have made a difference tonight.
I think, more specifically, it's penetration in the A gap. But I am sure that goes for most offenses.

I think we should look into what LSU does to stop HUNH. They have had success against Oregon, aTm, and *u. They use the same personnel package and play straight man to man, use a speed rush up front, and a safety to play center field to watch for the qb scramble and screens. We try to sub/match personnel to much and it confuses and slows down our players. JMO
Exactly. And I think it is legitimate to ask WHY, after several games where we've absolutely had our heads handed to us with that philosophy, that we stick to our own.

The Oklahoma staff visited Alabama a few years. I think the Bama staff needs to visit Norman this time.

Looking at the stat chart it is hard to believe we didn't win - until you see the 5 on the turnover line...

I'm gonna hit the hay and reflect tomorrow.

We have some things to work on. Ball security, discipline (stupid penalties), "finishing," and earning it.

But I'd still rather be where we are than anyone else. We're set to be in the hunt for years to come.

Proud of our players, disappointed with the results of the last two games.

And thanks to the seniors - you have brought us back and made us all proud again.

Roll Tide from sleepy eyes and a disappointed heart.

Observations and not criticisms...1st Hats off to OU...you deserved it and outplayed us, outcoached us and won the game. Now, IMHO, Coach is at the same crossroads now as Coach Bryant was in the early 70's...either change and adapt or go down that same road as the late 60's. We know what he did. As has been said, Coach Saban needs to revisit and readjust philosophy to keep up with what is going on around football. If this keeps up, we will continue to lose these types of games. Other teams have caught on.

The HUHN hasn't neutralized old school football. Not even close. We have a Stanford problem. They play old school football.

just like with the Aurbren game, i think we underestimated the Sooners. Cant just show up and expect to win against a team with talent. they had zilch to lose and they layed everything on the line. that was my fear going into this game.

I also think Coach Saban hasn't called the best game plan the last few games. Too much passing in certain points. We should have been running the ball more in the second half tonight. DH is going to be a beast for us though. It hurts to lose tonight because I really wanted AJ to go out on a win... but the future is bright. RTR!!!
Of course, I remember many people saying that we should have passed more against AU because they were stacking the box. That's the thing about losing- you second guess everything that didn't work. It is definitely back to the drawing board for a few tendencies that teams seem to be figuring out. When you win 3 of 4 titles, everyone studies what makes you successful. Well, the more people study you, the more they discover how to beat you. That is one of the reasons it is hard to stay on top.

I sure hate losing. But I do believe they beat us. I agree when people say "We beat ourselves", because that's almost always been the case since 08 (with exceptions), but Oklahoma beat us tonight. Hate to end on a loss. Wish the players all the best, and thanks for the legacy. Roll Tide.
3 first half TO? We beat ourselves.

You've hit on a lot of it. The rest is their QB and receiver corps played out of their minds tonight. We kept hearing that we just needed to stop their running game. Ha!

Losing the turnover battle, not getting of the field on 3rd and long , and allowing their defense in our backfield all night were what did us in for this one. 11-2 is a great season but losing the last two certainly will make the off season long. I trust we will be good in the next years to come we may see some growing pains this coming year, but look out in 2015.

Yep..and one thing to remember to is Bama likes to use big heavy guys for their defensive ends most of the time ..in fact they play both positions NT or DE but I see a lot of defenses using small defensive ends which is probably why sacks are not something we lead in year in and out.

You must have watched a different game. They whipped us all over the field.
I don't know of any D1 teams that can overcome 28 points off of turnovers against a good team. Our turnovers beat us. Change any one of the first three turnovers and the game changes. Thus, we beat ourselves.

Well...it seems the classless Auburn fans came out tonight on my Facebook. Ironically they were fine for the IB. I have unfriended some already...I am not dealing with it.

Not sure why I am friends with rude people like that on FB anyway. So I removed some clutter.
Ah. Facebook. One of the travesties of our world. Especially when it allows ignorant CFB fans to rant. I'm not against social media. I actually like Twitter and Google+ (and this message board of course).
