Re: Lane Kiffin a candidate for 49ers OC job

I would also ask why wasn't this discussed among his family before taking the job at Alabama and before giving a two year commitment. When the job was first offered I'm pretty sure his wife already knew whether she was going to move or not. It seems there were a lot of things that could have and should have been been considered before accepting the job. That is unless he never intended to honor the two year commitment in the first place...

I might not want her alone in California without me.....just sayin

Maybe I missed it but has the 2 year agreement ever been put in print. I've seen it mentioned in the threads a lot but I haven't seen it in print anywhere else. I'm not saying it isn't true I just don't remember anyone else talking about it..

Earle will have to confirm but it is said that Saban requires at least a two year commitment from ALL assistants.

If you are the CEO of a company....and your "right-hand-man" is 'flirting' with another company.....if that doesn't work out -- is he still your 'right-hand-man'???
A few companies I've worked at would have fired them. I've witnessed it. Their view is once you've started down the road of looking for another job you don't have their best interest in mind anymore. So buh bye...

That's what I was saying. I know the 2 year commitment is SOP for assistants but maybe Saban and Kiffin worked out something else where Kiffin let Saban know that if he got an opportunity on the west coast after the first year he would probably take it..

Yeah, we don't know what all went on. His wife should realize that this coaching life style is not all glitz and glamour and college coaches spend lots of time away from their families. Everyone should be forthright and this situation would probably never have happened.

I would have to have a big, almost perfect hire to announce on the same day......because pushing Lane out would ruin a recruiting class or two....

That is plausible but I'm not sure it is very likely. If I'm Saban that would have been too much risk for me to take. Especially seeing that you would have a new qb to break in.

I agree. I'm just saying that everyone is talking about Kiffin possibly breaking his word to Saban when we don't even know if the 2 year agreement is in place..

Until we're told otherwise it is safe to assume the standard operating procedure is in place for Lane. The other option is to shut down the thread and act like nothing's going on. Take your pick.

For all the talk about Saban wanting assistants to stay two years, Major Applewhite and Greg Brown would like to talk to you. Kevin Steele left for LSU after one year back on the field.

Do we even know if there is any truth that he is leaving? Are we just feeding a rumor? If so it should be shut down. It sure isn't helping recruiting.

Re: Lane Kiffin a candidate for 49ers OC job

I agree with that to a point, but at the end of the day you have to do what's best for you and your family. Everyone makes a big deal about Saban giving Kiffin "another chance." If Saban didn't give Kiffin another chance someone else would have. Maybe not last year when Saban did but someone would have at some point..
I think Kiffin would have wound up like Phat Phil.
