New coach search...

If it was all about money, Coach Saban would be a Longhorn.
We're not going to hire Marshall. We could offer to make him the highest paid coach in college basketball and he'd turn us down. If you have to ask me why, then you don't know why.
So is the second, third, or fourth choice, going to be perceived as a lousy choice? A failure?
That's what concerns me. You talk about pressure on a new coach.
sip

I think you are far too negative. I thought I was cynical about our basketball program..

I don't think anyone believes we are in the same neighborhood as Kentucky, Kansas, Duke or North Carolina. Surely a coach like Marshall would choose any of those schools over Alabama. But all of those schools have long established premier coaches.

Alabama has far more basketball potential than Wichita State, regardless of the past few years. I'm not saying that means we'd get Marshall if we do offer him. I'm just saying, again, I think your outlook is too negative.

I think Alsippi is just not comfortable with change and no "sure" solution . I'm of the opinion that the ball boy would actually be an upgrade from Grant.

You're right! Probably deserves it's own thread! [emoji1]

Sorry about that - no excuse for not reading through this thread...after all it's only 40 pages!

Seriously though - don't these guys ever change their mind and further don't they say stuff at times just to posture themselves?

Anyhoo - that's all I got.....going to be interesting - I have faith in CBB to get the job done.

Don't mince words LD. Tell us what you really think.

I think as someone that stood by CAG and patiently waited for him to be "the one" to bring Bama back, I'm entitled to be frustrated. You don't know how hard it is to enforce board policy when you actually agree with some of the criticism that he deserved. But that is part of my job as moderator which is not to allow my opinion come before policy.

They do, but his face and expression seemed genuine! That's OK, I actually think Prohm is promising. There's more than 3 good basketball coaches out there , I hope we remember that !

Yeah but that's just his game face..... :)

FWIW, I think a lot of folks were pulling for CAG to turn things back around this season.

But as we at Florida know (wrt CWM)....no matter how many positive attributes a coach may have - at the end of the day you gotta win games.

I see your point and as you know I was probably one of the 1st off the bandwagon. I want us to compete at the highest level. As I've said before, my dream is to go to a final four with us in it. I've seen us win football national championships in person, but seeing the 1st basketball championship would be special. As we all know there is only 1 first time.

I agree it has been long past time for him to go. Coach Grant realized it wasn't going to work for him here I think last year. He's been mailing it in for the last 2 years.

You are correct! And even if he was an asst. under CBD, he was never going to be CBD. He could only be Anthony Grant. Same goes for Shaka Smart.

I don't know why, so please tell me why? Or is this another riddle we have to figure out?

Being easily being the top coach in your conference, a sweet sixteen coach every year, rather than facing Calliparri, Anderson, etc, every night in the SEC and running the risk of being a high paid bust!
I don't know. Other than that, I can't imagine.

Bazza, I mentioned earlier in the thread that I think Miller would be a god candidate/choice. He is a coach’s son and played at NC State, so he has knowledge of the south. In an interesting side note that means absolutely nothing, he is from Beaver Falls, PA. I think I’ve heard of that place.

As for Miller’s comments about being happy in Dayton, what else is he going to say at this juncture? Of course he’s going to claim his family likes life in Dayton, the program is on the rise, all those things you say when you have a good job and want to keep it. Marshall has consistently made the same claims. What makes one believable and the other not?

I could watch his expressions from the bench and I could tell. I've experienced some of those same feelings of when I didn't quite "fit" where I was, but I did everyone a favor and found a place where I was comfortable. It makes a difference in a job setting.

I admit I have not followed this thread as close as alot of people and I did glance back through the post today. I see State has already hired Howland was he never really on our radar or did he turn us down? Just wondering State fired their coach after us so they must have made a mad dash at Howland.

Highly unlikely anyone would turn Bama down for MSU. That's an understatement.

If you told me that you where going to pay a million bucks a year to coach against Cal, Anderson and the used car salesman down at API I'd say "Where do I sign?" There is no shame in "getting beat" by Kentucky or any team! But when you are the reason for "losing" to those teams that's a different story. I think most coaches are competitors. If you're scared of getting beat then you shouldn't be coaching!

From what I've seen from people like Cecil Hurt, Howland was never high on the list.

At least the desk in Rick Ray's office didn't get a chance to get a coat of dust on it. Seriously, Rick Ray out in three years and a new coach in about 48 hours. I've ordered pizzas that have taken longer to deliver.....
