New coach search...

I am saying it. It is Friday, if there was any serious contact to any other coach, something would have leaked somewhere.

Who's saying Battle did/does not have a backup plan ? There is no desirable coach that is going to stand in the wings, even for Kentucky. IMO, Battle is now executing his backup plan which is to pursue the next best legit candidates. Some of us just hope the list has more quality than Goodman reported.

(My only criticism of Coach Battle in the narrative thus far is that he did not have the pulse of the program until just prior to the firing. I can think of reasons why but none are justifiable though there may be one. The PR hits, IMO, are mostly meaningless or imagined. Though I have tremendous respect for Cecil, I even disagree with his criticism of Battle's post-Marshall press release. )

I don't get the 5 million talk. Dudes we have to show some pride and confidence in ourselves, come on. A few coaches are worth that in college Bball and CGM is not one!

It matters more what a good coach is worth to us, not what he's worth in some relative comparison to other coaches.

To me, this is where we're at. To get a quality guy that will stay long term and build this program into a power means we're going to have to overpay. One, though I believe Tuscaloosa is one of the best places to live in the nation, it likely has little appeal to outsiders with no UA ties. Two, we don't have the "tradition" factor UA football has when it comes to BB. At this point, we are far from a "destination job" (hope that can change). Three, the pay is going to have to be high enough that when a "destination job" comes open, money doesn't factor into the equation at all for our successful program builder. We have to make it such that the only way a guy leaves is solely to be at a premier traditional power... and money helps that happen.

Let's advance the plot rather than moping and moaning at what should or shouldn't have happened with Marshall Dillying in Dodge City. If Mama calls, its a Prohm date with a dream job. If Mama calls Mike White, as she's apt to do when her boys are successful, he's off to Ole Miss. Give Prohm a three -year contract at decent (not extravagant) money and see if he can hit that upside some are touting. Three years is plenty long enough to find out - only took two for Grant to show his only upside was fashionable sideline appearance. And then four years of a mouldering program to say sayonara. I'm all in for giving Prohm half that long to make or break a program - especially as broken as it is now...

The complete and utter lack of news indicates he didn't have a backup plan IMO. We would have heard something by now. I am not suggesting we replace him, and I'm not complaining per se. I'm just concerned.

Day 19, yes day 19 of the search. Battle met with Rick "15 second" Petino for advice sometime last week. Battle, go to the Larry Brown coaching tree and even ask Brown himself for advice! (Brown>Calipari>Self>Ollie>POPPVICH!!!) Get a coach that has coached with him, it appears they all have hardware now! Freakin' go steal SMU's Coach in Waiting he's making $850,000 a year to be an assistant). Get an up and coming Brown trained success story. I've been listening to Finebaum too much!

So...based on that logic, we should have brought in RichRod, and not waited on Saban? See how that analogy doesn't even match the bball situation?

Uh, that's exactly what happened. Had he not reneged, we'd have had CRR and not gotten Saban. I hope Mal Moore sent Rita a bouquet of flowers every year for the rest of his living years, because he has CRR to thank that his legacy is built around 'getting Saban'

Who would have ever thought a Basketball thread would get to 209 pages and 2,714 posts. Amazing and we don't care about basketball. Ready to get our new coach!

This is not really about Basketball...it is about the University of Alabama, and whether or not we want to be excellent ineverything we do. The state of Alabama has enough to deal with, but we are, and should be, a shining light to the rest of the nation. We can, and should move toward excellence in everything. Good is not good enough!

After this search, how long until CBB retires. IMO, It can't come soon enough.

I think lots of people said the same thing about Coach/AD Mal Moore until the Coach Saban hiring. Then, he became a saint. Remember he hired CAG also.

I am a big supporter of Coach/AD Battle. He has done more than probably any of us for the University of Alabama. There is no telling what support Coach Battle gave Coach Mal Moore while Mal was AD. That's probably why he's in the position that he's in.

He was a great, great success in business. I really don't think Tenercee should have ever fired him as their football coach except he couldn't beat Coach Bryant. But that could be said about a lot of people. After being fired he became a great success in the business world.

P. S. I have sort of followed his career since he played for West End High School. By the way, does West End High School still exist?

I do admire him and respect him and am happy he is Alabama's A.D. Whoever he hires will be okay with me. I also had that same respect for another person who just loved the Crimson Tide: Coach/AD Mal Moore.

Yes, Coach Battle is what? 73 years of age? He is a Class Act in my book? I'm sure his tenure will be short because of his age, but currently I think he is an effective AD.

Right now there is an assistant or a head coach at a lesser known school that will be a household name in 10 years!! Go get him coach Battle and if the fans don't like it at first, they will when he wins!!! Give him 3 years to show what he can do and move on to the next hopeful if he is not the guy! A great coach no matter the name or pedigree should be able to show off his talents in 2 years not 6!!

Happens in football every year and no reason a great basketball coach can't do it in 2 to 3 years!! Put out the word you have a job opening and let them come to you!! Should be a line a mile long waiting for a chance at an SEC job at a prestigious school such as Alabama!!

I admit, i can't find one positive aspect of this search! UNLESS, he is still in the final 4 lol hehehe sorry had to do it.....
I know you probably dont think we will land one of the final four guys, but its worth dreaming. I can tell you Wisconsin's coach is the only possible outof all of those, and that doesnt look possible. But then again, Barry Alvarez has rubbed big name coaches the wrong way enough to leave as of recenty (Bielema and Anderson come to mind). i dont think we would land bo ryan, but it is a lot more foreseeable than landing Calipari,Izzo, and Coach K.

Wishful thinking on Day 19*Groan* :cool2: :BigA:
