Also, this is like having two OL coaches basically. This is title only. Mario will coach the edges and key will handle the interior

Saban never stops looking for ways to improve. Wow.

I don't understand the juggling. But as others have posted, Saban knows best, and he's doing this because he believes it will make the team better.

I'm sure, before he made contact with Key, he had already thought through the entire domino effect on the staff.

It is, however, interesting.

Normally, I couldn't care less but this move concerns me with William possibly coaching wrs..... I think i heard Napier was moving on last year but never did.

So, are we better or worse with this shuffling? Thoughts and opinions?

It's just my opinion, but I haven't been very pleased with our OL coaching since Stoutland left. Granted, he was working with some talented guys, but I really think he "got it" and knew how to construct an OL - as did Pendry. CMC is obviously a talented recruiter, but IMO an OL coach needs to be a guy who can develop players more so than do well on the recruiting trail. In part, I believe that because OL prospects seem so difficult to rate correctly - it's very common for "3 star kids" to end up outperforming "5 star kids" at that position. I'm guessing this is an avenue to keeping CMC on staff while shoring up the OL coaching.

Maybe Tidefans can add "Report" or "Social Media" to the options when starting a thread; similar to existing "News Article", "Blog" etc. Some way to signify it isn't "official" . . . Still in the less-than-certain category.

This isn't on Rolltide.com, Al.com, ESPN, yet. This thread heading makes it sound like a done deal.

I agree that this may be an effort to strengthen OL play and coaching. As good as we were last year, motion penalties and other negative plays on the LOS plagued us most of the year and actually have for the past several. There's definitely room for improvement.

That was my opinion too.

And then I remember our OL got an award for being very good last season. I guess there's always room for improvement.

I'm going to try to say this the right way... sometimes national awards go to players/groups based more on perception rather than actual performance. When a RB has the kind of season Henry had, the OL is going to get some votes. I think we'd all agree that run blocking was good last year - but we were 45th in the nation in sacks allowed and 101 tackles for loss. Can't find any stats on hurries, but the eye test says we were average at best and possibly in the bottom half in CFB at worst.
