Can't use Bortles.... he got the Jags to the playoff.

My point was simple: Daboll offense can do well with a decent QB.

Now you are just being silly. Bortles is an average to below average qb and you know it. You just wanna say Daboll is a good coordinator and want to use variables arbitrarily to suit your argument. You can’t tell me Bortles is better than Cam, Dak, Wentz, Cousins, Alex Smith, and some others.

Cassel was a decent qb btw. Average qb and he couldn’t break top 20 offense with him. Delhomme made it to a super bowl.

Pretty good bet that if they're not in great playoff position by mid-season, bet on him being benched after the 8th game in favor of whoever they draft with their high first round pick next month. I'd be surprised if he even gets to the 60% snaps number if they're not in playoff contention.
Yep, probably going to be a short leash for AJ if the Bills are able to move up in the draft and get one of the top QB's. He's going to have to impress right out of the gate.

Rumor has it that the Browns may want to move down from their #4 pick since they're already going to be paying #1 overall money for one guy. If the Bills can get their top guy at 4, I expect it to happen.

Hate to butt in but JD was at the end of his career, not close to the same guy who went to the SB. Daboll had a bunch of losers at QB. Matt Moore was probably the best and he did a decent job with him. I'm not saying Daboll is a great or even good OC, but he had nothing, and I mean nothing to work with at the NFL level. He might be a flop, but it is difficult to say based on what he's had to work with thus far.

McCarron had a couple things against him.

One is that there were too many FA veteran QBs available, along with AJ, a guy with a few wins.

AJ, and others, may have fallen for the Garappolo effect. “Well if Jimmy G, at 7-0, got THIS much, then AJ should be able to get this much.” And there again, with so many other options, teams weren’t gonna give AJ big money.

But man I hate to see him in Buffalo. I really wanted him, if he didn’t get the opportunity in Arizona (SAM FREAKING BRADFORD????) to go back up Brady.

The Browns are still somewhere in neighborhood of $80M under the salary cap (after the additions of a few free agents). It may be more than that, since Joe Thomas retired, but I don't know exactly how that affects their cap. I can't imagine that the Browns are worried about what they might have to pay for whoever they draft at #4. They may move down to acquire some additional picks, but I don't think it'll have anything to do with saving money. But, I was wrong once before, so... ;)

Edit: This site says they have $79,441,390 in cap room. The calculations apparently include the free agent signings Tyrod Taylor, Jarvis Landry and Damarious Randall. I'm not sure if the retirement of Joe Thomas is taken into account.
https://overthecap.com/calculator/cleveland-browns/

This site says the number is now $68.8M. It was updated yesterday.

I wish he had gone to the Cards as well. Bradford gets hurt when the wind blows the wrong direction. He might even hurt himself just getting dressed in the morning.

Since this is kind of a free agent thread and the subject matter doesn't demand a new topic: I'm surprised Courtney Upshaw hasn't signed somewhere. He's kinda fallen into a pretty replaceable skillset role as a versatile rotation defensive linemen but he is reliable in run support and can be a good sub rusher as an interior linemen. Figured Atlanta would resign him for cheap but they're slow playing it I guess. May be trying to draft their DL depth and gauging their need for him?

I just assumed Atlanta had resigned him. A lot fans seem to want to keep him simply for depth at the position.

I see the Jets moved up and acquired the Colts' #3 pick. I saw an interview with Bills GM and he said they were very comfortable at where they are (#12 pick) in the 1st Rd. But I do know a lot of the things said in front of a camera or nothing more than a smoke screen for what's really going behind closed doors. If the Bills make a move up and grab one of the top 5 QB's then the clock has officially started to count down for AJ, before he ever takes the field.

Rumor is that they are going to try and trade with the Giants for the 2nd spot or the Browns for the 1st. I think the Bills are trying the Jimmy Johnson total rebuild strategy

Yep. He'll be officially the "bridge quarterback"...

Might not be the perfect scenario for AJ, but at least he'll likely get his chance to show what he's got to offer some other franchise. Rooting for him!

They really don't have anything to offer. They may take a qb but it will be one that falls to them at 12.
They have picks #12 and 22 in the first round and 2 picks in the second round (both in the 50s). The Giants are sticking with Manning. For the right mix of these picks and a 2019 1st rounder, the Giants would trade.

The Giants are in a happy position on qbs with their 1 and 2 guys. They, from reports, seem to be looking to trade away their #2 pick for the right price. With the massive moves that the Bills have made in the past couple of months it seems that they are trying desperately to get a pick that is ahead of both the Jets and the Fins to get the qb that they want. Look at the cap space and the draft picks that they have and it seems very likely that they are trying for a top 5 pick.

What’s probably going to happen is that the Bills trade the Browns the 12th pick and a 2nd round pick for the 4th pick, and then trade the giants for the 2nd pick with the 4th and some other pick.

It will take a lot more than you are suggesting for either of those picks. 4 picks minimum.

So 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks for a the number 2 pick? Because of what the jets did that won't be enough. They'd also have to give up a future pick. Waaayyy too much for qbs that aren't home run material. I sure wouldn't destroy my whole draft for a maybe. Bills have other needs beside qb as well. Like wide receiver. I don't see them going for the number 4 pick either because the browns actually need it.

Yeah and people said the same thing about the Eagles 2 years ago when they traded up for Wentz. But who is kissing Lombardi now?

The Bills have time to address the other positions, but they seem to know who they want at qb and won’t risk the other teams getting him. So it’s highly likely that they trade up to get ahead of the Jets. They aren’t planning on building around AJ or Pederman and it is really obvious right now or else they would’ve never got rid of Tyrod.

Could they change their mind on AJ? Yes but it’s far more likely that they use him to bridge a new qb and trade him for a 2nd round draft pick in the coming years.
