I think some of you are underestimating Young. These kids are coming out of HS ready to go. Look at how successful some of these guys have been as true freshmen. He may not start from game one, but to think he can't take over the job and needs all this time is not true. Mac will need to continue to improve or Young will be all over him. He is going to get a fair shot, and I think CNS has learned from his mistake of sticking with Jalen too long. If Young is the guy or if he is even with Mac then Young should and probably will get the nod from game 1 or later in the season.
I don't underestimate our recruits because we bring in good ones every year. I just have a lot of trust in Mac Jones and we all know Saban goes with the guys he trusts almost to a fault.

well i agree they are coming in prepared, but Tyson and Taulia were those guys coming in last year prepared, so I cant say he automatically jumps Mac, tyson and taulia. I expect Mac Jones to win the job and keep it. rtr

Prayers for Tua and will really miss him. We have one heck of a QB competition that will last well into the Fall IMHO. Mac is a good one but by no means a shoe in...neither are the other 3. Lia has been overshawdowed by his brother but you will see his star shine brightly in the Spring. Good luck to all!

I disagree - just as Tua was just a notch better, so is Young. Even as a true freshman with Mac at starter, he will push for game snaps. Mac is good enough to hold onto the job, but I really don't see anything in Lia that makes me believe that he can hold Young off for the 2nd string job.
That's where I'm trying to make point. Lia hasn't really seen much of action on the field except to snap the ball and hands it off to RBs. he went 9/12 for 100 yards for the season. Tua threw almost 470 yards with 8 touchdowns and 1 interception. Mac didn't do much last year... and lot of people thought Mac was gonna be odd man out.

SO I'm saying, Don't count out Tauila….

No matter how good he looks in practice, Young will have to show it in an SEC game before he would be considered over Mac. Mac just wiped the floor with a very, very good Michigan defense. He is a known, and good enough to win the SEC.

Young will get game snaps, and we will know what is there at some point in the season, but unless Mac regresses, it is his job.

Best case scenario, IMO, is Mac balls out in 2020 and enters the draft early. Taulia gets quality reps throughout the season, continuing to mature, grow and learn the offense, taking over as starter in 2021. While BY gets RS and takes a similar path to the starting job as Taulia.

Edit: I know many believe by this timeline BY will have already passed Taulia as the starter. I'm just stating the best case scenario where each QB has great success as the starter and it puts Alabama having a great quarterback an additional year or two.
That's what probably will happen. Young will play some and still be redshirted.

We will know more in April when we see who starts for the White team in the spring game. BY has 4 months to make up ground.

Good luck . GREAT decision, right decision. Rich Eisen just said the price for Tua will be high, as the Dolphins pick 5th, so to get him, teams will have to move up to 3rd at least. He also said the Dolphins will absolutely take him at 5. , the chargers will be the other team in play for Tua! Maybe the family moves to LA, or Miami! I gues. We shall see. If that happens, maybe UCLA or Miami as transfer schools for Lia. If he chooses to leave

This is my thought as well. I watched the highlights of the Auburn and Michigan games and then watched highlights from AJ's junior and senior years. Mac Jones throws a better ball than AJ in my opinion. AJ tended to put a lot of air under deep throws and Mac's deep throws have a closer trajectory to Tua's. AJ was a very good QB for us and made good decisions with the football. If Mac can continue to mature as a decision maker then he is going to be extremely difficult to beat out, if not impossible. His footwork in the pocket and ability to keep his eyes downfield was really good against Michigan.

With that said, if Mac Jones has a sophomore (or junior) slump next year, then I think one thing Saban learned from the Tua/Jalen situation was to make the difficult decision once it's clear. Therefore, the QB situation next season looks very promising.

Thanks Tua. I can say I've seen one of the top college QBs of all time. Many years from now, people will talk about you just like we do about Namath and Stabler. Prayers, good luck, and ROLL TIDE.

Mac will have a lot shorter leash than Jalen Hurts. When last touched the ball in 2016, he had given the team a lead late in the national title game. He had up and downs but mostly showed a lot of promise and had a knack for delivering despite struggling in a game. Mac Jones won't have that kind of resume. He will probably be the game 1 starter if he doesn't have a bad spring or get injured. He might not be the game 12 QB but I'd probably bet that he will be.

How do you guys think this impacts Najee's decision? On the one hand, he and Tua were very close. On the other hand, he will be the star of the offense with Mac at QB. He would have no shot at the Heisman with Tua he could be a legitimate candidate with Mac if he comes back.

I agree, but I think he will have a great year. If Najee stays, Alabama is going to be awesome! If Najee leaves, we have to see what these young RBs have. Your o-line looks to be the best in the country next year.

I havent read all the post , but you watch , Taulia is going to L8U and with Joe Brady as offensive cord, they most probably going to be tough again next year .

Looks like Galu has decided that Lia is staying at Alabama. That may change, but it won't happen until at least sometime after next season.

While I hope he does, I just can't imagine Najee staying. I don't think he can significantly improve his draft stock, and the likelihood of him winning a Heisman is very remote. It's not like we are going to go back to 2015 on offense and hand the ball off to him 30+ times a game against our tougher opponents.

I like Brian Robinson, but I don't think he's the caliber of back that Najee is. However, I'm hoping that a healthy Sanders and a couple of these freshmen can fill Najee's shoes. I also like the prospect of Keilan Robinson, with a little more muscle on him next year, being Kenyan Drake type back.
