Gus Malzahn fired (and (laughable) coaching search...)

I like how their search committee is basically the same people that picked Gus. Bo Jackson was a great player but, why does that make him good at picking a coach? Maybe they should offer Bo the job.
Methinks Bo is there so when they hire a white dude over a black dude (see 2008 hiring of Chizik), they’ve got cover (“hey we sought advice from diverse points of view”).

But who couldn’t love seeing the talent that was Bo Jackson on the football field?

Pat Forde yesterday on SI.com re the Auburn coaching search:

”Auburn is a good job and can land a good coach, as it has many times in the past. But this thing is off to a classic Auburn start, with everyone and no one in charge. One industry source summed it up this way Monday night: “The search firm doesn’t even know exactly where it stands.”
You should know the Auburn sources told me Forde is full of it, and they know what they’re doing and oh yeah, he hates Auburn and is not objective.

I’m starting to think the search committee is special agents for the REC.

I think it would interesting to talk with some of the Oregon early signees to see if they spoken with Coach Cristabol to see what he has said to them.

An “I will be here” versus “I plan to be here” response might be telling. Not to say Cristabol wouldn’t leave with the excuse of “we just couldn’t come to an agreement on an extension so I took the Auburn job”. But it might give an indication his sincerity at wanting to get an agreement done to stay in Eugene.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
The question is - can Cristobal beat Saban? I don't see it.
Another question, does Cristobol want to have to constantly deal with Saban? (recruiting trail and on the field)

It's one thing to take the job in 2010-2016, when Saban was still set in an offensive mindset that wasn't popular with all the top quarterbacks and WR's. It's another thing coming in now when Saban's mindset now attracts the top qb's and wr's while also STILL attracting the top defensive talent. Ask LSU fans how their trophy case would look today if not having to deal with Saban all these years. BIG DIFFERENCE!

The most laughable guy on that committee (yes even the Aubies see him as laughable) is Tim Jackson. He’s one of those guys that is the proverbial “ cockroach in the basement of the athletic department”. No matter the “fallout” he scurries into a crack for months on end and suddenly just reappears when the coast is clear.

They can thank their agents for that, people like Jimmy Sexton are the ones who ensure $21MM nest eggs like these are worked into their contracts. It allows Gus and Kristi time to weigh their options without feeling rushed. ;)

Sexton catches a lot of heat but no one is forcing thee schools to sign these crazy extensions. Gus got paid because he beat Bama and Arkansas was interested. EVERYONE knew Aubrun was getting played when they gave him the insane extension, but Aubrun gonna Aubrun...

Funny losers need big buyouts to cover their asses, Nick has no buyout, he knew he was not going to get fired. And yes schools are STUPID to pay a loser millions to leave, if a coach really thinks he is good he needs no buyout, as far as I know, Nick is only major coach with no buy out(if he leaves for another job) or pay out if fired(never happen) or if he left on his own early.

Well, you might want to check some earlier posts about this very statement. I think a lot of us thought this too.

@AUDub posted about this on #667
