Fortunately, nothing can possibly go wrong with 18-year olds who become overnight millionaires.
Saban isn't a guy that sits back and complains about how things should be, etc. He operates out of what is, so this new "pay thang" is here, it's real, it is what it is, so he's going to use it to his recruiting advantage.I'm just stunned Coach dropped that information.

That would be my big concern if I’m writing the check. Not saying anything bad about Young, but who knows what he might do off the field to end his career. Or he might just get out there and suck. Plenty of five star guys have had zero star careers. (This is a general comment about college athletes in general, not to say I think he will do something illegal or play poorly).Fortunately, nothing can possibly go wrong with 18-year olds who become overnight millionaires.
I said a little while ago that Saban was the best possible person to have at Alabama while this was being introduced. There are still parts of this that make me uneasy, but Saban doesn't just take new things in stride, he takes advantage of them.I'm just stunned Coach dropped that information.

Exactly. Companies are lining up to endorse the starting quarterbacks of these big time universities, and right now there’s none bigger. It’s recruiting season!
There needs to be a cap….you want to pay them, fine. But that is so much money for an 18 yearFortunately, nothing can possibly go wrong with 18-year olds who become overnight millionaires.
Math is hard... but, a zero here and a zero there and pretty soon you've got real money.Isn’t a million dollars seven figures, not six?????
While I agree with, you know that CNS has this covered in the new Alabama NIL program. There needs to be a cap….you want to pay them, fine. But that is so much money for an 18 year
Old to have. That kind of money can mess with your head. “friends” and family members who you have never heard from start coming out woodwork and can get in your ear and try to be your “financial advisor”
The only financial advisor these guys need to use is Vanguard PAS. Even better: Put it all in VTI and let it ride for the next 30 years. I would LOVE to have the longitudinal data in 2050 for guys that follow this path vs those that don't. I might even be OK with doing 50% in VTI and 50% in crypto just for giggles since this is like found money for most of these guys but you're definitely right about there's going to be some shady dealings taking advantage of naïve and ignorant (in terms of how to properly manage and invest their $$) players. PS> this is not an investment post. For that go here! There needs to be a cap….you want to pay them, fine. But that is so much money for an 18 year

Never even thought about this aspect of it, but you are correct. Now, a big name college player can realistically make enough money to retire at 22 years old and never step foot in the NFL. I wonder if this will have a trickle up effect on the NFL from a financial standpoint? There literally could be players taking pay cuts from college to the NFL. LOL!How many millions would it take, for a big name college player to have enough by his senior year, to retire from football and skip the pros. At the rate Young's going, he might retire by January. LOL
Given the serious money in the NFL, probably not a lot. But I could see a star player who is only projected as a third or fourth rounder deciding he has enough money (and a degree with Saban as a reference) that it isn’t worth the trouble.Never even thought about this aspect of it, but you are correct. *Auburn players have been taking pay cuts for years*
You can guarantee this type of thing will come up. Will the left tackle get more $$$ than the right guard, or will Bryce have to do film study on them to see which OL grades out the best? The optimist in me wonders: Do you think Bryce will give some to his o-line? He'd be nothing without their protection and only the truly dedicated fans would even know who they are...
The cynic in me wonders: Do you think the o-line will require payment to keep Bryce upright? After all, 10k/game for them to split is chump-change for a millionaire...
Let's say a smart / talented player could bank $4MM over a 4 year career and actually put $2.5MM in the bank (invested in a balanced fund) after taxes and buying a new car and some blingy clothes. Back of napkin and well-researched simulation says you could probably be ok withdrawing 3% / year ($75k year 1 then increase that amount for yearly inflation) for life and never run out of money. To REALLY retire at 22 and feel good about not going the NFL route, you probably need more like $10MM earned. Somebody will hit that number in next 5 years, I bet.How many millions would it take, for a big name college player to have enough by his senior year, to retire from football and skip the pros.
