Auburn coach Bruce Pearl has agreed to a new eight-year contract to remain on the Plains through 2030.

The deal is worth $5.4 million per year, with a $250,000 annual escalator, athletic director Allen Greene announced Saturday. The deal will max out at $7.15 million during the 2029-30 season and has a total value of $50.2 million.

It's only 8 years. He's 61 years old. How is that "for life'?

they will perpetually renew & update it... until they have to fire him at which point he will join the long list of coaches being paid by auburn who no longer coach at auburn.

Pearl is a good coach. He is slimy as a raw oyster, but he is a good coach. I guess the main reason he fits in so nicely with the rest of the barn fambly is becasuse rule following is not one of his attributes.

Would be interested in @AUDub 's perspective.

For me, it looks like any other contract extension, plus a little more window dressing.

There's always the amount of influence money has coming from the boosters too when a program is winning or not, so that makes things like this also very political in nature.

So Auburn takes a chance on Pearl with a “show cause” and a significant history of lying to the NCAA. And while in Auburn’s employ, his assistants get in a NCAA situation to the extent they self impose penalties and a 2020-21 tournament ban. And Auburn hangs with him.

So when Louisville cans their coach and word leaks that conversations with Bruce’s representatives are happening , good old Coach Pearl makes the typical public “non denial denial”’ and his water boy Justin Hokansen of Auburn On3 basically writes a “pay the man” column.

And Auburn administration kowtows.

Here’s my opinion. Pearl is a slime ball and handled it like a slime ball. Instead of going to Greene and saying “hey appreciate the chance Auburn gave me when I was radioactive, and staying with me during my last issue with the NCAA. I want to stay here so let’s work out a deal.”

No, he chose to play it in public. The folks on the Delusional Little Village on the Plains deserve college basketball’s version of an aluminum siding salesman.

Agreed. But such is life in college basketball. Too many of the great head coaches in the sport are completely corrupt. And the fans are okay with it.

They’ve always shown to be willing to do anything to win. When this story broke yesterday I asked some friends how long it would be before they were in some serious trouble as a result. He’s cheated everywhere he’s been.
