He made several outstanding throws against a good Auburn team on that last drive at Auburn and the play call to get the ball to Upchurch in the end zone was masterful with great touch on the ball. Greg threw the ball pretty darn well for someone as maligned as a passer he was. The next week to put together a winning game against Tebo the Heisman Trophy and 2008 National Champions is not something that should be underestimated.

Greg was underrated as a passer IMO. McElwain's offenses generally leaned a bit conservative and tilted towards the run so Greg wasn't asked to play hero ball, but when he did throw the ball he was very efficient. In 2010 he threw for nearly 3,000 yards and completed 71% of his passes for 20 TDs against 5 INTs. Those are solid numbers, and the guy made an NFL roster and even started a couple of games if memory serves.

He wasn't the greatest athlete in the world but he wasn't chopped liver either. Now, he grates on my nerves sometimes as a commentator but he's a smart dude and IMO did a very good job as starting QB for two seasons.

GM made up for this lack of athleticism with what's between his ears combined with grit.

Loved him as a player, find him annoying as a commentator.

I want to see Jamarion Miller take the first snap...

In 2009 vs. USCe and we lose that game if we don't let MI take over.

But GM was better in 2010 for sure and the stats show that.
He hit a mid-season slump, but busted out of it towards the end of the year. Led the drive against the Barn and played great against Florida.

To me, I just felt any good QB could do what he did. I thought he was overrated coming in and nothing about watching him play made me feel different. Didn't make me feel as comfortable behind center as I did with Tua or Mac or AJ.
People are entitled to their opinions, but that doesn't mean those opinions are sound. Sorry, but this is just a completely absurd take.

And 99 out of every 100 random people you might ask...

I had far more faith in his ability to execute than I had in the play-calls coming in from the booth, that's for dang certain!
Seems like his opinion is more what my kids would classify as something a "hater" would post, rather than something based upon rational thought or objective facts.

But, as the old saying goes, everyone has an opinion just like everyone has a...and most of them stink.

Oh, make no mistake, I had no faith in the play-calling, either.

Maybe to you.

You've doubled, tripled and quadrupled down on that "opinion." How do you sound to everybody but you???

It's akin to saying something like "Coach Bryant didn't understand what it took to win." Somebody probably said it in the day, but they were laughed out of the room.

What about our future QB ? Let’s get back to that discussion.

I voted for Ty Simpson cause I believe he's got the most "QB talent" in the room. But there's a reason Buchner is in Tuscaloosa so I'm hedging my bets he may get the nod.

I firmly believe the QB who emerges from the UTa game (in the case of a win) who performed the best is the odds-on favorite to start the rest of the year if they remain healthy and productive.

I'm not concerned with how I sound to anybody. When I see that someone has directly asked me a question, I try to respond to it. Since the events that formed my opinion are in the past, they aren't going to change.

No, it's not. I'm not making a judgment on Young's understanding/intelligence/whatever, and not saying he didn't know how to do something. I'm stating how I felt with a person in a given situation.
