Nick Saban Retiring? It's Official .. the Goat is gone

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Lots of good times for me, my friends and my family. If you would have told me we would have had the chance to play for just one national championship when I sat and watched UCF beat Bama back in 2000, I woudl have said you're crazy. My days at Bama were more tears than laughs. Thanks coach. Been lots of fun. Looking forward to being a fan during the next stage.

I was all Bama before Nick; I'll be all Bama after.

I remember when Coach Bryant retired and heard about the end of the world for Bama. Heard about the end after Coach Stallings. Coach Saban gave us so much at 1,000 miles per hour every day he was here. He and his family bought in and invested everything into the Capstone. I have and will continue to appreciate and be in awe of everything he has done here! Roll Tide Coach! Roll Tide Miss Terry! Roll Tide Saban Family. You are ALL CRIMSON for LIFE!!!

The end of a definitive era. It's been amazing, heartbreaking, thrilling.

Thanks for the memories. In some ways, it's meant everything.

ROLL TIDE

Let's remember one thing in defense of the going forward: the days when CNS could have told 1-2 confidantes before the season or after the UGA game AND IT STAYING SECRET are long gone. Had he even breathed a word of this earlier, it would somehow have gotten out in this day and age.

What a run.
None of us saw the run coming.
I suspected the end was here, though.

There’s nothing really surprising about this. I believe Coach has more left in the tank, but all these moves to destroy the fabric of what college football has always been will wear even the best down.

My breaking point would’ve been when players across the country started playing hop scotch in and out of the portal while playing multiple sides for more money. This is a truly lawless sport with no regulatory solutions in sight.

I’ve loved these 17 years and would’ve never conceived they could’ve happened before they did. It will take a while to fully process just how great the man has been, and will be most evident in the void his absence will create. I hope by doing this he has preserved many good, healthy years ahead.

However, this doesn’t have to be the end of being a top tier program. UA not having a plane headed to Eugene, Oregon, as I type would be the only “disappointing” part of it.

Not totally surprised, he's made comments several times this season about how tired he is. I suspect, as others have said, watching Belichick decline probably played a role and the shifting landscape with the transfer portal, conference expansion, NIL, etc. probably played in as well. That said, we know Saban is generally very calculated with his decisions and I'd be surprised if this came out of nowhere, unless it's related to an acute health condition (hopefully not). I suspect this has been in the works for awhile and if that's the case, I'd be shocked if we don't already have a plan in place.

Something struck me as weird today. They were talking on WJOX with Michael Casagrande of AL.com. The subject came up about CNS “retiring”. He said he didn’t pick up on anything at the Rose Bowl but then almost in passing said “there is a plan in place”. It was almost like “someone is lined up”.

Dose this mean Tide Pride will be cheaper soon.

I just hope this is a real retirement and he doesn’t end up at some other school in a few years because he was bored at home.

Anyway, what an incredible run. I was born in 78 so I grew up hearing the stories about the Bear. I never thought I’d get to experience anything close to those stories. Saban granted me that dream and in my eyes surpassed the Bear. That could be just because I have experienced this run. Roll Tide, Saban. You will forever be the GOAT in my book.
