Who is Saban's replacement?

It's our class we just signed I'm alittle worried about. The rest have accumulated to Bama and for the most part should be fine. It's not who the coach will be, it's that it's not Saban. But we were always going to have to face that when Saban left. We all, players and fans, just have to open the next chapter of the book. No reason it can't be outstanding also.

Players and parents today are as fickle as ever so who knows what they'll do? If we land Lanning or Kiffin I doubt we lose hardly anybody, if any. If we hire someone not in the vein of these two it may get ugly wrt this recent class. But it is what it is. 🤷

What if Lanning is just interviewing the current staff? Saban made some young hires this year and brought in a defensive coordinator that wasn’t going to stay for too long.

Despite the rumor that none of you have heard until now I did not fly to Alabama yesterday to take Alabama's head coaching job.

On a serious note: we all knew it was coming sooner or later and it came sooner than most all of us wanted.

But Byrne has shown he knows how to hire a good coach.

And Saban is leaving the program in excellent shape.

Maybe... but the average turnaround for Byrne for hiring a new coach after one leaves or is fired is 2 days. Meaning Byrne isnt one to waste time, and in pretty much every case has one already picked out.

I think Byrne is trying to give Saban his victory lap, and trying to make it seem less like something that they have been planning on for awhile.

So if you believe what you read from half the insiders, it was Byrne who has been planning on this for a while and Saban had been working and interviewing coordinators up until yesterday before he decided to retire surprising everyone.

The other half say we already have a replacement hand picked by Saban.

I don't think GB would be "working on this for a while" independent of Saban, that would run the risk of coming across deceitful. If there was a plan being worked on by GB, it more than likely included Saban as well. We'll know by the end of the weekend (or end of business dsy Friday) for sure if a plan truly was in place.

But come Monday (God bless Jimmy Buffett) if no one has been hired then strap on your seatbelts because the media vultures will be in full force with the "crumbling empire" narrative led by Paul Fbomb.

Nick Saban, one of the most meticulous coaches in college football history, a guy that literally planned practices and game days down to the minute, didn’t have a strategy for passing the torch to the next guy? A program that is his legacy?

Nope. No way. No how.

Could CNS have been “kicking the idea” around for a while, and finally pulled the trigger yesterday? Maybe, but there is no way Coach Saban would walk in and tell players a replacement would be hired in “72 hours” out of the clear blue if some initial contacts haven’t been made.

I'm not saying he did it without Saban. The internet chatter is a bunch of people were surprised by the timing of this announcement. It 100% can be GB saying "hey Nick I know we talked and you think you have 5 years left, let's do some succession planning." It also could be 100% Saban was interviewing coordinator candidates up to lunch on Wed and walked into GB's office at 2pm and told him he is retiring.

I'd agree with that................I think the biggest worry is keeping the recruits, and some are scared Sayin will leave, but I think Saban probably reached out to all of them and they will stay. I look for the new coach to hit the ground running and talk to all of the signees
