Help me out here. The portal opens for 30 days for Tide players to enter/leave...correct? But we can't replace any players that leave until the next portal period because other team portals are not open???

Correct.

It's a stupid rule because too many people have bought into the lie that the players have been oppressed for a long time.

Ugh! It used to be a new coach could take over a team stocked with talent. Now it's possible to go through spring practice with a depleted roster.

I work on campus, and I've seen first hand how "oppressed" these players were before the portal and NIL. </bluefontoff>

I don’t have a problem with players making money off of their talent while I’m college because nothing is guaranteed in the future, look at what happened to Prothro, but there needs to be limits to some of this stuff. The NFL works within a salary cap system and college needs to have that as well. Plus the portal rules need to change and only have the portal open either at the end of each semester or once per year at the end of spring semester. I prefer once per year. And it needs to be limited to once per student. For example TI Finley is in it again, that is just crazy to be transferring that many times.

"You shop (now) we shop (later)."

Seriously, hate to hear it, really, but he's one player and it is what it is.
I agree and do we really want a player that might not be completely bought in around with the new coaching staff. He is a great playerand he won’t be easy to replace but I would rather have someone who actually wants to be there instead of someone who is only there for the money, if that is what the issue is.

Idk. There are very few players that feel like this. He might be the best safety/defensive player in college football already.

This one hurts more than most IMO. Would have been a massive win if the new staff could have kept him. More frustrating because it feels like we probably keep him if we found a way to keep TRob

Frankly, Coach Saban screwed us by announcing when he did and not giving Byrne a head's up. If he'd waited even until today it would have been too late for players to transfer to other schools, allowing the new staff to keep them through spring practice and build relationships.
yes but that would have been a jerk move and against every thing Coach Saban has stood for.

How so? He's about having them buying into a process and creating value for themselves. What's happened instead is that they're jumping ship to the highest bidder before giving themselves a chance to see how they fit with the new staff. Which they would know two months from now.
