The unknown in all of this is how many of these players would have left even if Saban was still the coach. Maybe not now, but perhaps after spring. This NIL is worse now than it has ever been. And will be worse after spring when other teams identify where their gaps/needs are. There's a great chance Bond was going to cash in regardless, and Downs had upped his value to be in position do the same. Amos was already a traveler and had no ties here. Others were going after playing time, at lease initially, then I'm sure followed the cash. But "leaving" is very much en vogue now. Like "flipping" is. It demonstrates that the player is in control and taking advantage of opportunities. Not to mention there are people in the background driving the need for more money. Every player's situation is unique.

I keep telling myself to be patient, understand this will be a process, etc., but man is it hard to watch the exodus. Will we have a secondary next year? What will become of the o-line? I am hoping like crazy for some Washington transfers on the o-line and that we can get the all Pac 12 CB from Washington. And that Domani Jackson still comes here and that Caleb Downs somehow changes his mind. Help.

I don't really think its about money for Downs. This kid is as surefire an NFL prospect as they come, Minkah 2.0 in a lot of ways. It's either he's following Robinson or he's just flat not comfortable with the staff in general.
If he's getting 1 mill+ it is most certainly about money. Yeah the relationship with TRob is something, but it's not as big as the money.

I think his delay was giving us a chance to match the offer and we don't have it to give.

Yes, I agree, but a "governing body" has to put it in place. Isn't that the NCAA's job IF THEY DO IT??

This is what will ultimately cause the break away of the big boys from the little guys. Super conferences.

The problem is the players have all the power. If fans lose interest because of the players greed, eventually things would even out. Lower TV ratings, less seats in the stands, and no one buying the tee shirts. College football would eventually get the message. It's about time to boycott.

Again, there was certainly going to be a lot of turnover after the GOAT stepped down so it is really a matter of mitigating the issue and going forward. Another thing we need to understand is that even though these guys are great football players that are also just kids. Like I have said before, I have a 22 year old that I am super proud of...but he still has the mind of a 12 year old. That is just male biology.

That is where all of this is headed IMHO.

The rest of CFB better hope Harbum doesn’t leave Ann Arbor. A domino effect would spiral and all these fans that are chuckling it up now will reverse course. I hope it happens every year until they get enough sense to make changes.

What really gets me too is the guilt tripping of fans to “donate” to “NIL Collectives”. Putting it directly on the fans and alumni to pay football players to play football. It’s just asinine. Fans and alumni are already buying tickets and merchandise, donating money for facilities, paying through the nose for the privilege to even be on the list for season tickets through Tide Pride, watching the games on TV and generating Ad revenue, etc. Now we get told that if we want good players it is on us to pay them in cash. No other sport or league asks this of fans. It’s insane, and unsustainable. The rules HAVE to change.
