It's funny - in a way, all of the losses on offense would make more sense if Saban stayed. Maybe players were frustrated (read: Bond, Niblack) they were getting open and not getting catches; and with DeBoer, offense will be the focus.

Defense, esp with all the attrition from coaches, I get.

Guys in truth many of these guys were going to leave anyways. Aside from Downs and a few others it really didn’t matter if Doeber was the coach or Saban was the coach. It was happening.

Look I gotta lot of flack for saying there were locker room issues. You are seeing it right here. There were alot of drama behind the scenes. We really won a SEC championship because we were just more talented than 90% of the competition we faced. This team really wasn’t that close and together like many wanted to believe.

I’ll say this. Aside from Downs I’m not terribly shocked by any of this. But I’ll tell you this… 2024 has the potential to be a team that truly can shock some folks.

No insider info at all here, but I've had a weird vibe about the team all season. Dallas Turner's locker room draft announcement raised eyebrows for me. Sounded like somebody who was either (1) tired of some nonsense/drama or (2) the source of some nonsense/drama - probably the former in his case if I'm guessing.

Recruiting rankings are great and I hope we keep cleaning up in recruiting. But it's also possible to have "too many" stars on one team such that chemistry becomes an issue.

I think Deboer needs to develop an Alabama culture instead of focusing on stars. I get the feeling that CNS kinda let things slip over the last few years and it just exploded this year. There is a reason that many former Bama players are calling these guys out in particular.

Michigan and Washington had far less nfl talent than both Alabama and Texas.

To me the main thing to look for is just how much bleeding there is to the portal. Someone alluded earlier to seeing how DoBoer does with a Ferrari, but if it ends up in a ditch that's not a good start.

Having said that, a lot of Washington guys are in the portal or want to leave as well. So, a few losses here and there shouldn't be that big a deal because DoBoer will have a good chance of adding some of his Washington guys to fill holes. There might be a bit of a talent gap, but he knows who can play on his team.

So a few losses shouldn't be too hard to replace, and it's one advantage of hiring a guy who was a head coach, their portal opens as well. Just hopefully the bleeding can be stopped relatively quickly.
We may have to resort to taking a page out of Neon Deon's book and go after a number of players to replace those guys that were persuaded to leave. They may not have the talent of some of the guys who left, but some of that can be made up thru coaching, and the desire to play football at Alabama.

There may be more talent out there soon if coaching dominoes start to fall…

That's all fine. Doesn't mean I don't consider them turncoats and quitters. Mercenaries.

As I've said, real mean stick to their commitment. These quitters are not real men.

Screw 'em all, and RTR to those who understand team and dedication.

The portal sure does feel like Tinder.

Yep, we don't need a bunch of guys who think the Sun rises and sets on them. We don't need those Jokers.
Our players have a 30 day choice, they can stay or go. I would prefer they stay. If we can fill some vacancies from Washington or players from Arizona... We should explore every option.
Right now I'm not feeling very kindly of the guys who abandoned Alabama. To heck with them. We had a great football team, that is being gutted by deserters and grinning Podcasters.

Well this is the problem with getting a bunch of out this earth talent. No one forgets who they are and never stops recruiting them. I think people who are beating up Deboer’s recruiting history are really missing the reality of college football. Teams like Alabama are never going to beat teams like texas at the amount that they can pay a player that is chasing money. Our game has to be more on developing players to play football and not always prioritizing players with 5 stars by their names. If we get them fine, but the days of expecting everyone to accept the role as a team mate are over.

Just so you know I always appreciate your insight/opinions.

It is always hard to come out and say something like “we have locker room issues” because it feels like you are insulting or denigrating the team or something. I got the vibe all season that this was a divided team but it was just that, a vibe, based on what I saw play out on the field and week to week and statements and actions by certain players in public. Honestly I have felt that Alabama has had a “team” issue for the last 3 years. Since our 2020 title. It has just felt like a group of guys out there doing a job as individuals, instead of playing as a team. 2008 was a team. 2009 was a team. Most years in fact from 08 to 20 it felt like a team (some more so than others). Then something changed. It felt more….mercenary. But I don’t feel comfortable vocalizing that when I’m just some guy with zero insight into the program.

I like team sports because they are team sports. There is something missing in the enjoyment when it’s just a bunch of individuals doing their thing.

This is what it’s all about, right here.

As an aside. I love Coach Saban, he will always be my guy, but he never seemed to have any recorded moments like this that make me want to get off the couch and run through a brick wall for him and the team.
