I was trying to think of equitable solutions to this idiotic 30 day window to transfer. Just kicking around a few thoughts. Of course really doesn’t matter at this point for us because we are already screwed by the current rule.

First, 30 days is too long . I’m thinking 15 days AFTER a new coach is hired is long enough.

Any player entering/declaring to transfer and entering the portal during the normal open portal period is fine. However, any school accepting a transfer from a situation of coach leaving/retiring must open their program for transfers for 15 days after the first announcement of acceptance of that first transfer.

Think about a program benefiting the most from the Saban retirement open window - Texas. NCAA is “all concerned” about being fair to players stuck when a coach leaves. So what about the current players at Texas in the Receiver group? So you think ALL of those guys (including receivers in the 2024 class that just signed in December) are real happy with the addition of Niblack and Bond? For some it will mean greater competition and reduction in playing time. Yeah they can jump in May, but that also means missing spring with a new team. So is this current system “fair” to those student athletes? Seems to me those players should get the opportunity to “explore” their options as well.

In some cases, it may slow some of this aggressive pilfering of players outside normal portal windows. Especially if a coach knows it “reopens” his program in the same way.

I didn't think much of it. Marlon was just being honest about what he would have done as a teenager with all the money being thrown around. It would have been too much to turn down. Whether or not he would have actually left is debatable. But no doubt the NFL guys are loving this money being thrown around and wishing they could have had it so good.

But him being an Alabama alumni and considering our current circumstance, what productive could come from him "being honest" and putting that on a public forum? To me, it was a total punk move showing his immaturity. I lost a ton of respect for the guy.

There's one version of events going around that Sayin was in fact pushed out. That might not be accurate, could be a rumor people keep reporting but I've seen the purported quotes and if true he's certainly not deserving of any negativity.

I can't find the origin of the quotes but it certainly isn't clear right now considering Alabama took in another QB before his departure.

I think it says that when we're good, we're really good. When we're not......well, if I did the math correct, those seasons without the big dogs at the helm netted 5.2 wins per season. I bet lots of the early seasons didn't have many games though.

Most of these high profile players know each other. Kirby doesn’t have to reach out - just back channels the request to have one of the players do it.

I remember when I coached youth baseball and basketball years ago. I would get irritated with those players that didn’t show up for practice. One of my best friends and assistant coach reminded “You ARE NOT here for those ones that DON’T care about being here. You ARE here for those that DO care about being here. He was right and I never forgot it.

Coach DeBoer has to do what he can to stabilize things. But in the end he has to make the decision to be there for those that DO care about being there.

Which is phenomenal! Until a decade or so ago, the regular season was 10 or 11 games followed by a bowl game. Aside from Ears Whitworth, literally every Alabama coach for over a century’s had at least one 10-win season. Ole Miss had zero before Lane Kiffin.

Well 20 UGA kids have hit the portal already, twice as many as Alabama, but they didn't got to USA, maybe a few to Ball State or Eastern Mich. Not sure.

Georgia was trying to make room for all the BAMA players they wanted to steal. I also doubt any of those 20 players were key players for Georgia.

FWIW:

John Talty: Feel confident saying that Julian and the family intended/wanted to stay and this is driven much more by DeBoer and staff than by Julian. Unfortunate situation because I'm a huge believer in Julian's talents and think he's going to be a star.

Tom Loy: This. He wanted to stick it out initially and then well, things went south. Shocked to be honest. Sayin is the real deal. I think the new staff will regret this one. Just my opinion.

I'm also of the opinion we have to move on. If the new staff didn't want Sayin, he ain't stayin.
