Yep the expectation is to compete to make it to the Final Four next season. Realistically every team wants to compete for that but this is the first season we can legitimately say we have that expectation.

Here's hoping both Jarin and Mark comes back. Would argue we need Jarin more because of depth... but both would solidify this team as elite.
I'm hearing Jarin is leaving and Sears is staying. Hate to see Jarin go because I'd really like to have 1 more big man.

And walk away from a potential NC run and he will be a key component to that run?

If true, I just dont understand the mentality of the college athlete these days... Winning is no longer the goal.

Can’t be money either. As he’s likely to make more at Bama vs G League or worse. Maybe he hates school?

The Stevensons have always seemed like a family in a hurry, that they have a plan for Jarin that doesn't necessarily track with his actual performance or ultimate potential.

If he truly is leaving, I wish him luck (while shaking my head).

We'll know before the clock strikes midnight I guess. My guess early on was that JS was leaving...hope I'm wrong. I expect Sears to make a smart business decision based on facts and feedback. Hard to be critical of that.

JS, except for one game, has always looked like a 2-3 year college guy. He just seems to be in a terrible hurry.

Let's not discount the fact that playing at Bama is hard work under the direction of a driven head coach. That's not for everybody.

I'll never understand these guys who look like they need at least another year or two of college bolting for a pro career it is so obvious they aren't ready for.

Keep in mind JS should be graduating from HS in the next week or so.

If that's it, then it seems like transferring would make more sense. Something about the whole thing doesn't add up.

It's hard to imagine what he and his family might be thinking. It was always the case that coming in a year early he would need some time to adjust to the college game. I just can't imagine them thinking he's ready for the next level.

So, yeah, it seems a transfer might be more likely. Wonder if they now wish he would have stayed home and worn the powder blue.

I don't have time to look it up, but I bet he averaged less than 20 minutes per game, maybe 15, and he's potentially staying in the draft? That just doesn't make sense. If playing time or regret, like you mention, is the issue, then just transfer. There's obviously money to be made with his skill set. He is definitely skilled. If the talent we have coming in is the issue, again, transferring, not the NBA is the solution. He either got really bad advice or is choosing to ignore good advice. It would be interesting to know the real story.

FWIW, I think he could have a break out year this year in Crimson. It's going to be real interesting whatever he does.

But if he bolts, I figure CNO hits the portal again.* Knowing him, he'll sign a player who in the end with be a plus positive to the roster.

* Not sure when the portal opens again. Late summer before school starts???

While I wouldn’t agree for JS to go pro I understand it. He has shown that going pro is his priority. Teams probably told him they would develop him. I can understand that turning pro and starting your dream as a professional would be his choice. He then doesn’t have to put up with classes and pretend to do the college stuff.(even though yes getting paid) He would get to be trained by the NBA and train while getting paid that’s it. It is a longer path than Clowney did but he is probably thinking it’s the same path eventually.

college is not a top priority for a lot of these guys. Certainly not loyalty to a school.

Personally I think JS stock would rise much quicker for a draft selection if he were to just stay for 1-2 more years. I get that he could easily be a development player for a G- League team but I don't see there being more benefit for him there at the end of the day. If G League was the goal the entire time I guess one year in college makes sense. He compares to Clowney really well, he is just not NEARLY as polished as NC was in one year at Bama.

Hope the best for the guy. Really think he should stay and test the waters again next year. You're gonna be in the G League for the next 3-4 years anyway.. Why not make some of that fancy NIL money in the meantime.

Clowney and JS might look similarly (comparing their first years at Bama) but there were two big differences;

1. A whole year of growth and strength that comes with it.
2. While Clowney looked lean, he was clearly very strong as a true freshman. One of the best rebounders we've had lately but also versatile enough to pop out to the line for 3s. Rare specimen.

JS only has part of Clowney's game...the 3 point shooting...and it's not nearly as good.

The smart decision for both, IMO, is for them to return to Bama. Stevenson needs to add much needed strength and work on his all around game. Is he good? Yes he is but not NBA ready and I think he would struggle in the G League as well. Sears may or may not improve his draft status but another year at Bama earning NIL money is better than sitting in the G League.
