Not even close. Lets dive in shall we.

With Cam Newton:

-Beat Mississippi State 17-14
-Beat Clemson 27-24 in OT
-Beat South Carolina 35-27
-Beat Kentucky 37-34
-Beat LSU 24-17
-Beat Alabama 28-27
-Beat Oregon 22-19

To say they would win 9 wins is a huge huge stretch. Obviously who replaced Cam would be a major factor in that but lets just say for the sake of argument that it was an average to above average guy. Most of those games mentioned above would have been a loss.
Auburn didn't know what they had with sCam for the first few games.

But I agree, he was worth half the points they scored each game (or more). Without him they might have been 7-5 or worse, which is basically what we expect of Auburn each year.

I think probably the strongest evidence is the fact that the 2010 season was bookended by 2 8 win seasons. The 2009 team with Chris Todd and the 2011 season with Barrett Trotter. The only major, MAJOR, difference between those 3 teams was Cam.

There’s really only one Auburn poster on this board lol. Yeah I do have a home board, and I post there more than here. Probably two, if you count the chaos that is the SECRant.

And I get it. I’m not quite “universally” disliked here but I’m definitely always fighting an uphill battle. Doesn’t bother me. Such is being a rival poster in hostile territory lol.
But the pay is good. A job is a job...

Yeah. He’s not expected to be the 2025 QB. That’s probably going to be a portal QB and right now the expectation is that Freeze is gonna wing bank at the best available this offseason.

That being said Hugh is a QB developer.
Ya'll say that a lot.

Seriously: If he is known as a developer of qbs, why didn't he concentrate that plethora of nil funds that you indicated (previously you stated that money was not an issue) towards getting a quality qb? A quality qb could then attract quality wrs...

Most of us enjoy the back and forth and truth be told if you weren't a tinge delusional we would question if you really were an Aubarn fan. :)

When I played, we went undefeated every season ... if you removed all the points every opponent scored. In fact, if you remove every point every other team could have scored, we would have beaten every other team nine times out of nine.
the thing about picks like our QBs are throwing my is that they are very much unforced errors. Hell 2 of Peyton’s were well placed throws that his receiver just up and dropped.

The evaluators aren’t all morons. He’s a unanimous top 5 QB in this class.
He’s more of a project but he’s a QB few coaches would refuse.
If there is one position that the "experts" get wrong more than others it is QB. Lets just take a look at the 2022 QB rankings. Any school would have been gleaming and boastful if they would have signed any of the below QB's. QB is a hard position to predict because there are so many factors that go into a person's success (What system are they in, How does the game translate from HS to College, Does the school they go to develop them, Do they get an opportunity to grow and make mistakes with in-game play, etc.) I would also argue that many of the people that make up these "rankings" aren't always as knowledgeable as you might think. Hype happens, especially at QB, and red flags are overlooked. For every 10 highly rated quarterbacks that sign, 2-3 at best will pan out. Deuce, if you watch the tape and have an understanding of football, particularly the QB position, you will see some things that make you go "hmmmm". I'm not hating on the kid, I just don't see him being the savior that some of yall think he will be.

Freeze could have run into what Saban did a few years back when after Bryce left we went into the portal to try to get several quarterbacks to bring in and they just didn't come. It had nothing to do with us not offering or trying. They just didn't want to come to Bama. It happens.

But that was before NIL (became official).

The barn is definitely not frugal when it comes to NIL packages but the coffers are not infinite. They are having to prioritize who is getting what and with as many needs as they have, plus players already on payroll, it won't be an open check book type situation to go out and get whomever they wish at QB. Quite the little issue they are dealing with...

Wasn't the NIL "official" last season? Bryce was our QB in 2022 and I thought the NIL came into play in 2023 and we tried to get several QB's that we missed on.
OK, you said a few years ago...I guess NIL HAS been around a few years. I lose track.

But, my point is that with "money not being an issue", why didn't the reverend invest in a position in which he is regarded as being a "developer"?

We have been told over and over that money is NOT an issue down there and I believe it.

We have seen how a great QB attracts great WRs. The other way around, I haven't seen yet.

It’s a little early to be making too many judgements on that 2022 class. A couple of those guys on that list (Klubnik and Allan) are already starting. And a couple of them (like Simpson, Howard and Brown) are basically starters in waiting. Sam Horn is hurt (Tommy John) and he’s probably going to end up a baseball player anyway.

Everyone with any sense gets that Deuce is a project and the earliest projection on him starting is probably 2027, but he’s physically about as perfect a specimen as there is for modern offenses. He’s the guy that’s ranked where he is based on his ridiculous ceiling.

if anything NIL makes it a bit easier, but when you’re in a situation like Auburn you pretty much have to choose areas of focus. Last year WR was clearly the biggest. This year it seems to be defensive line.
