Have heard this discussed a lot and I am leaning toward the game being about playing for a bye. Just my opinion... But I don't think the committee punishes a Power 4 team for losing its championship game by leaving them out; could affect seeding though.
I don’t woory about this as much for sec, but dread other conferences with similar scenarios and a lower ranked underdog(s) wins their conference game

My worry is BYU goes undefeated in the regular season then loses to whatever trash team they play in the Big 12 championship. Now 2 garbage teams from an unworthy conference take up space in the playoffs.

That is the million dollar question for the committee. Will they punish an SEC team for losing the SECCG for teams in other conferences that t have played a weaker schedule.
I want to say when they interviewed the committee chairman the other night and he seemed to say that if the loss is a close loss in the championship game it may not hurt the losing team seemed like it was directed at us.

If the loser of the SEC Championship Game has a solid resume, meaning a couple of quality wins and a top 25% (or so) strength of schedule, as long the game isn't a blowout, I think they are in the playoffs.

I think that's one of the reasons for the expanded playoff - to include runner-ups. Not to necessarily pick the #3 or #4 team in the conference, unless everyone sees that #3 or #4 had some unique set of circumstances early in the season that cost them a shot at the conference title game, and then they got markedly better as the season went on, or something like that.

I like Alabama's chances in the SEC Championship game regardless, so if they make it in, I wouldn't stress. No team in the SEC looks unbeatable. When Bama is clicking, they look as good as anyone, and better than most.

Schedule strength has to be at a premium. Schedules are not created equal. Chris Fowler made a statement last night that he was disgusted with SEC teams playing a bye week late in the season. I find that statement hypocritical because if you scroll through most Big10 and ACC schedules unlike Clemson or USCw you won’t see a challenging game for 6-8 weeks. That my friend is a irresponsible statement.

Yeah apparently it is ok to play an FCS team in September or October, but not ok to play one in November.

As crazy as it looks right now, it could get even crazier. If Arkansas beats Texas (and they just might), Georgia beats TN, Texas beats A&M, and all the other teams with 2 conference losses win out, there would be an 8 way tie for first.

Ummm, no.
Arkansas is pretty decent this year. I wouldn't rule it out. I've seen most of their games and they're really just a few plays away from being 7-2 right now. They could win or they could lose by 40. It depends which Arkansas you get. It's a huge rivalry, I bet it'll be a close game.

I expect Texas to win by 30, but we will see.

Just me, but I would rather the scenario play out that gives us the best opportunity to play for all the marbles, even if that means not going to Atlanta. Can’t worry about all that now. Have to concentrate on each of the next three teams we play. All the rest is beyond our control.
Yeah, I just want to make sure we are in the playoffs. If we don't make the SEC CG, that gives us another week to heal up and prepare for whoever we would have to play in the playoffs.
