His buyout is 63+ million. He probably would not mind being fired
Given how clueless and stressed he looked yesterday this is most likely true.

Unless the coordinators are doing things against what you're wanting them to do or have violated rules/law, having to fire one is really a reflection on the hiring skills of the Head Coach.

Firing the coordinators....the death rattle of a coaching tenure that's about to expire.
Agreed. If not for the $64 million buyout, Norvell would be the one on the chopping block.

On3 says that the buyout declines by about $9 million a year. Assuming they're right, next year's would be roughly $55 million and 2026 would be $46 million. I'm not sure that's a ton different in the context of FSU's ability and/or willingness to raise the funds. But the alternative is to head down this track another 730 days.

They really are between a rock and a hard place. Norvell clearly doesn't want to be there. FSU doesn't want him there. But that contract....

What's the dollar amount by which Norvell would be willing to reduce the buyout in exchange for freedom from the program? Only he knows. Or maybe he and Jimmy Sexton. Very much parallel to the discussion on another thread around Freeze's alleged unhappiness at the barn.

I can recall only a few times when a midseason firing helped anything.

In this case it is the Jimmie’s and Joe’s that are lacking. They were decimated and brought in a bunch of portal guys who aren’t great.

Not saying coaching changes aren’t warranted… but..

He really doesn't deserve to have that job either. His conduct after the snubbing last year emasculated the entire program. Whoever he gets to replace his coordinators will either be a retread or and up-and-comer, with the latter maybe being the best option.

if he was pressured into this, maybe he should have said no and forced his own firing so he could get that massive buyout and move on with his life.

But would that be a "with cause" offense for insubordination?

Where the land meets the sky
I think he is in a bad position. If he doesn't get rid of assistants as has been insisted, then he runs the risk of going down the path of Shula when he refused. I see both sides, but I think the coaches in question did well when they had the players to pull the wagon. When the cupboard was bare, they were unable to produce any results. Yes, the buck does stop with him, but that also includes the Assistants that he hired and put trust in for his administration. There are other things that the coaches in question have not produced in planning, self-scouting, etc.... that are some of the intangibles for the position. I expect to see more gone by the end of the year.
