If Vandy possess the ball for 42 mins than Alabama can only possess it for 18!

Do you see how that logic is faulty?

Vandy punted twice all game and one of those punts came basically at the end of half so Alabama didn't get a real possession. The defense holds most of the blame for that game
For crying out loud man, Bama only possessed the ball for 18 minutes because our offense simply doesn’t know how to sustain drives and take time off the clock. The defense was on the field forever because our offense sucks.

Yeah I'm sure it has nothing to do with Vandy starting the game with a 10 minute and 6 minute drive.

2 Of our 3 losses are on our offense I don't really get the obsession with trying to blame the 3rd one on them when it pretty clearly lies mostly with our defense.

We all know that. He also inherited a pristine program loaded with talent, projected to be the best in the country or at least top 3. I know it takes time and this was a transition year but still, the way we lost the games we lost is troubling to say the least.
I wouldn't call it pristine. The Lank cancer makes it far from pristine...

DeBoer will have one season under his belt and an entire off season to adjust to a conference that I feel he wasn't fully prepared for. It's a different animal. Every coach is good, knows the X's and O's and has very good players at their disposal. He is going to have to develop as a coach as much as he's going to have to get his players in place.

But regarding the QB position, it's the focal point of championship football so we're going to need a QB that can play at a high level. Yes, we'll need a running game better than we had this season, but at the end of the day, championship teams will have a highly effective QB. There's just no way around it in today's game.

Feels like tomorrow might be a must win for him. Lose and that’s a bad .500 conference record. Then that would add more pressure to this recruiting class but if that ends up falling apart a little then not sure how long he can last without major improvement next season. Pretty much saying it’s high pressure here on out more than normal and being new excuse is used up. He had harder than normal start coming in late and I think we all give credit for the great job he did getting into the season. But that only last so long. Will evaluate here through the off season. Which seems fair to me.

We can go back and forth over the Vandy game all we want. What about the season as a whole? Which unit is more disappointing?

I’d say the offense and and it’s not even close.

If this offense was what we thought it was going to be, we might be undefeated right now. At worst, 10-1.

17 points @ UT, 3 points @ OU.
When you go back and forth all year struggling at OL and the QB position this is what you get. We either can't block or can't make the right read. It's killed us all season.

The defense would not have been out there for 43 minutes if the offense could possess the ball longer than 2 minutes. My God, man.
Because the offense scored in like 2 minutes nearly every time.

My god man!

Per your theory, it’s the offenses fault because they scored too fast?

I suppose the first loss to Clemson in the national championship game was the offenses fault too because they scored too fast at the end of the game and left Watson too much time to drive the ball down the field and beat us.

Yes, it is the offense’s fault because they scored too fast and turned the ball over and couldn’t sustain drives. All because Jalen Milroe is not a QB and swindled his way to the position. The defense cannot win every game.

Im not sure anyone is suggesting either unit is expected to win any game by themselves, but putting the loss on the offense for scoring 35 point in 17 miunutes is absurd.

Again, I think your perspective I warped by antipathy rather than reason in this particular situation.

Agreed. But just as the offense clearly lost Alabama the Sooners and TN games, the defense clearly lost Alabama the Vandy game.

In close wins, the Georgia game is one in which the defense almost cost Alabama the game - then 4+2=6 happened and Alabama held on for the victory. The USCe game is one in which the offense almost cost Alabama the game, but the defense stepped up.

The offense has been a mess, almost entirely because of Milroe. But the defense has been pretty bad at times, too.

This team has so many problems in so many areas that it’s difficult to really pinpoint them all.

Name me one game all year that all phases played as they should the entire game. I can’t think of one. The biggest issue with the Vandy game, IMO, is the defense expected the Script A curse on the ‘dores to continue with minimal effort. That unit got its collective Arse handed to them and the DC had zero idea on how to stem the flow. Mind you the OC and offense didn’t help but there was zero opportunity to get a rhythm in that game.

All I can say is that if Nick had stayed another year we'd be in the playoff. This program is as sterling and pristine as any one can find. Now, it is beginning to ebb.

Calm down, it's both.

The offense could not sustain drives.

The defense could not get off the field.

Vandy's possessions:
10 plays
17 plays
8 plays
6 plays
9 plays
4 plays
9 plays
7 plays
7 plays

Not a single 3-and-out by the Bama D all game.
