ouch. Unless we get another ball handler guard think that lowers this coming seasons expectations. Just can’t feel good having Holloway, and two coming off season ending injuries.Philon to enter NBA draft.
Don't sleep on ITT Tech, I hear they are going to be pretty good next season."One and Done" used to mean we would be watching you in the NBA for the next decade. Now it means we get to watch you at ITT Technical next year where you have announced you are "taking your talents".![]()
Welp we’re cooked. Barring something positively shocking don’t see how we are gonna make this work. Surprising he didn’t leave the door open to come back just in case but everybody’s got a dream. He’s not ready but d league is still part of the league I guessPhilon to enter NBA draft.
Yep… sometimes folks may jump onto the market due to such opportunities. We aren't cooked -- but we did open up some serious NIL money -- so we may surprise people with what we are about to do -- so hang tight all
It’s the route JD took. He’s the G league MVP and was just added to the Celtics main roster in time for the playoffs. He’s developed big time from his time @ bama. Even with NIL I think we’ll see more of this in the future.Welp we’re cooked. Barring something positively shocking don’t see how we are gonna make this work. I know most of us would prefer to have him for another year, but if you look at it from LP’s shoes, development in the G League is probably more likely there than here. I don’t think his chances of flaming out are high - he’s got size and ability to score. It’s the route JD took. Give me Mississippi State's guard and lets roll!We aren't cooked -- but we did open up some serious NIL money -- so we may surprise people with what we are about to do -- so hang tight all
Is that NIL money "freed up" coming from the players that are leaving OR did CNO get the University to invest more in basketball???We aren't cooked -- but we did open up some serious NIL money -- so we may surprise people with what we are about to do -- so hang tight all
From SEC by-laws:Anybody know why a football intra-conference transfer has to sit out a year, but a basketball intra-conference transfer can play immediately?
We’ve been helped and hurt by this…I’m not complaining. I’m just wondering why the inconsistency.
The eligibility for immediate competition is dependent on the timing of the portal and the sport.14.5.5 Four-Year College Transfers.
14.5.5.1 Transferring within the Southeastern Conference. A transfer student, including a graduate transfer, from a member institution may be eligible for intercollegiate competition during the individual’s initial academic year in residence at another member institution provided the student provides written notification of transfer to the institution within their sport’s regular NCAA transfer window immediately following the sport’s championship segment (see, NCAA Bylaw 13.1.1.3.1) [Revised: 6/2/00; effective 8/1/2001; Revised: 6/1/08; Revised 6/3/21, effective 10/1/21, Revised: 6/2/23, effective 10/1/23]
14.5.5.1.1 Exception - Head Coach Departure. A student-athlete may initiate notification of transfer during a 30 consecutive-day period beginning the day after the head coach of the student-athlete's team departs or announces departure from the institution. [Adopted: 6/2/23, effective 10/1/23]
Brandon Miller wasn't a "PG" per se but he is the prototypical guy that thrives in our system. So a fella can dream, but with the tranfer of the big 7 foot center who has some perimeter game, I now think the one player CNO really hasn't had that completely fits his system is a PG.
We've had guys who were good at getting to the rim, guys who could shoot, but we haven't really had the kid who could run the offense, get to the rim and was a legit 3 point threat; a three in one type player.
Philon was about as close has we've had, but his 3 point shot really wasn't there until later in the year and even then, teams didn't really respect it.
That type of player could feast in CNO's system. Surely there's a guy out there who'd love to run it!
Yeah, not a PG by any stretch, but we used him that way some. I remember a game against Vandy we just basically gave him the ball at the top of the key and let him go one on one.Brandon Miller wasn't a "PG" per se but he is the prototypical guy that thrives in our system.
So we'll need to hold a spot and NIL money in case he changes his mind? There are whispers that are claiming Philon has left the door open to returning if the draft options don't fall his way... similar to what Sears did last year. The announcement didn't read that way, but that's what some are saying. TIFWIW
Stevenson not a loss at all IMO. He had 2-3 good games and was weak taking to the basket and getting tied up. Glad he is gone. Not sure about Reid but he has a big upside that I don't see in Stevenson.FWIW, I like Stevenson more than Reid. Reid was a "get the best we can get" signee but didn't fit the system. He is a much better fit in a system like Awbarn's where they utilized Jawnee Bum in the paint in a more traditional center role. He isn't a deep range shooter and he isn't an exceptional guy off the dribble. Free throws were abysmal. I think he can be a good player at the college level but not for us. I think Oats realized it and encouraged him to move on. Best of luck to him but to me Stevenson is a bigger loss. All in all, I think we will be fine without either if we are able to replace them with quality guys.
