Now I may be in the minority on this, but I've always thought Wayne Atcheson's reach back attempt for us was - to put it mildly - pretty lame. I just have a real difficult time believing we should even be recognizing something the players on the team at the time didn't know they'd won.
Plus, I think the argument can be made that ANY national championship prior to 1992, which was a head-to-head meeting between 1 and 2 without dispute, can even be counted other than Penn State's in 1986. It's not that I think (like Auburn fans) that 1992 is a magical year and I want to include us, it's the fact it was the first year of the "Bowl Coalition", where the CFA conferences agreed to match up 1 vs 2 in the bowls IF those two teams were not going to the Rose Bowl. Even that one would be legitimately disputed IF Texas A/M had been able to beat Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl.
