Link: Aubarn whines about "hideout" trick play to the SEC

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

The only way to get this type of bush league stuff out of the game is to administer immediate consequences to the HC and team after it happens. If what Freeze said postgame was right, and the coaches were told to get this stuff out of the playbooks and it would be a point of emphasis by the refs. Then Venebles and the Sooners should get a hefty fine and Venebles suspended for the next game.
I genuinely think every rule in football, and much of the rules in the world we live in now, is to prevent a mass riot. If that OU touchdown is ruled out, and ANY OTHER form of discipline happens in-game, things get ugly fast.

In my opinion, it was a win-win situation.

awbern lost AND the SEC Refs will be more aware of it in the future (and OUR game with those guys).

What's not to like about that? 🤔 :D
You know my disdain for all things Auburn. And certainly don’t mind hearing Aubies whine about officiating given some the crap Malzahn pulled in his tenure there.

But the officiating overall in their game with OU was horrendous. While Autry and his crew were consensus “worst crew in the SEC”, this clown troupe on Saturday said “Forget holding my beer. Hold my six pack and watch this”.

Will the amount of dollars rapidly increasing across the game which ride on the outcomes , the conference and the needs to do better.

I watched both games and our game against Uthug a few years ago was worse... 😎

The refs this past weekend missed things, but in Knoxville those refs ignored things... 😖

The Right Reverend Freeze also said “they saw it and tried to call time out”. Video of the Auburn sideline doesn’t indicate that to be true as there was an official within feet of him that most certainly would have heard him. He makes no movement towards the official to signal TO wiith his hands.
Not saying he is lying about being told to get that stuff out of the playbook. I’m just saying Hugh has given us more than few reasons to take what he says with “a grain of salt”.

The good reverend would never lie...would he?

When it rains, it pours down on the plains. Bruce Pearl just announce his immediate retirement! Not a surprised to anyone, this has been in the works for awhile, but the timing is odd since BB practice starts today. His son Steve as expected will be the new HC. the barn fans are in shock mode.
Some are speculating he is entering politics which has been the rumor for quite some time.

I can't believe I'm even going to say this.....but Auburn should have won that game.

That fumble return that was called an incompletion.....I thought that was a catch and a fumble for sure.

And then that OU TD with the guy looking like he was running off the field.....that's a 14 point swing.

That crew though....at least the SEC called them out for missing that call on OU's TD.
See and with gambling so ubiquitous, you HAVE to have better reffing. OTW, someone is going to get murdered.

Ultimately, with the amount of money pouring in, they are going to have to go the NFL route and make them professional referees. And have much higher standards to rule out some of these crews.

It's Aubarn. My "Give a Crap" meter is not even registering.

Yeah my 1st thought was oh cry me a river.

We’ve lost multiple games on blown/missed calls by refs.

Does AU wanna give Curtis Brown his TD catch in the ‘95 Iron Bowl?

How many times did AU get away with Illegal Lineman downfield under Gus?

They’ve more than benefited from their fair share of inept officiating as well as using gimmicks and trickery to gain an advantage.

I get that it wasn't just one blown call, but how many pass interference calls are missed in any give game? Holding? Etc.

I agree with officials being well prepared, but I disagree that scouting is necessary, i.e. a penalty is a penalty and it should be called when observed. I couldn't care less about the money involved, but I do agree that ANY sport wants fewer mistakes and the best officials as possible, the positions should be full-time, to allow for training, review, and performance evaluations.
The errors in this game are magnified by this. For this reason this crew deserves greater scrutiny, possible suspension and maybe more.

“Oklahoma's radio voice, Toby Rowland, and other sources report that the Sooners' staff sought confirmation of the play's legality during their regular pregame meeting with officials, who then gave the play their "green light" before the game. Despite the SEC later admitting the play should have been penalized, Oklahoma maintained the play was legal because they followed the proper procedure and got the officials' approval beforehand. “

Clearly, if indeed this was a point of emphasis and this crew gave OU the go ahead, then certainly the competency of this crew should be called it question.

I think we both agree that greater competency is needed. I think officials in the college struggle to be “the best they can possibly be” because as you and I both know, they are part time. It is past time college officials serve in a full time capacity.

It’s the intentional breaking of the rules that’s important here. Plus, it seems clear the crew doesn’t understand the rule at all. That’s really bad.

That's what you get when an official is changing oil at Walmart on one day and calling SEC games the next...

Bruce is now saying he isn’t throwing his hat into the political ring. He will work for Auburn as special ambassador for the Athletic Department.

Do opposing coaches not point this stuff out to the refs pregame? Like “hey they are bad to grab wr’s on blitz packages from our film study, look for it”. Seems I recall Bryant did that. Even once suggested to the officials his QB was gimpy and would hate to see him get hurt and the refs ended up basically protecting the QB during the game.
Spurrier publicly called out FSU’s tendency to hit quarterbacks late right before playing them for the national championship. ACC officials usually let them get away with it, but the crew calling that game didn’t and they got flagged for it a couple of times. Given the reputation of how bad some of the SEC crews are, it wouldn’t hurt to give them a heads up. It’s getting harder to find which crew is calling a particular game, but if this is Jason Autrey’s crew there needs to be more than Auburn’s AD calling them out. They’ve changed the outcome of several games and are a big part of the reason SEC officials have such a bad name.
