Coaching carousel 2025-26

I saw them…those texts, if true, are pretty damning…but, only of his character…which we already knew is flawed beyond rehabilitation…
You're right when you say "If true", but I took a look at those and something about them just looks fake to me. I think some upset Ole Miss fans may have created those just to get back at him for leaving.

Kentucky hires Oregon OC Will Stein as next head coach

Kentucky hired Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein as the school's head football coach, it was announced on Monday.

"I'm honored and excited to become the next head coach at Kentucky," Stein said in a statement released by the school. "Growing up in Kentucky and sitting in the stands at UK games as a kid, I could only dream of one day leading the Wildcats. This is truly a dream come true."

Stein agreed to a five-year deal with the Wildcats, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Stein, 36, is a Kentucky native who has emerged as one of the country's top offensive coordinators and playcallers after working with several notable quarterbacks at Oregon.

Stein will remain in his role as Oregon's offensive coordinator and playcaller throughout the team's playoff run, per a source. The Ducks finished the regular season 11-1 and were sixth in last week's College Football Playoff rankings.

ped state was one of the first teams to fire their coach and will end up being the last team to hire their new guy
This won’t go away. A friend from Pittsburgh, PSU alum, is telling me they are putting a full court press on Sexton behind the scenes. I assume especially now that Sitake has turned down Penn St. BTW, Carpenter is a management consultant, whatever that means..

Its also been reported that Nick told Lane he'd worked at both Alabama and LSU and LSU was the better job. Nick better be careful how much he gets involved in the affairs of Kiffin and LSU.
Yeah I’m one of those Bama fans not real pleased with Saban in all this. You can have all the conversations you want with whoever you want. But CNS should have told Kiffin “You keep me out of this. Anything we discuss is confidential between the two of us. I am still employed by The University of Alabama”.
CNS should have recognized a conflict of interest and bowed out. I appreciate everything Coach Saban has done for the University of Alabama. But this was a huge mistake.

What I heard, from a LSU booster I know quite well, is that Saban told Kiffin: "Think long and hard before leaving Ole Miss for LSU." That's not exactly a ringing endorsement.

But who knows what Saban told Kiffin, or if they even discussed this situation.

You continue to refer to Haynes, but he had a bad year last year other than a couple of long runs vs G5 teams. It’s like his heart wasn’t in it. I’m not sure. IMO, the med stats don’t tell the whole story: There were points in games where on a 3rd and short conversion, he could have easily made it with minimal effort and he failed. He was bad on pass pro. It was better that he move on because it was like he already had in his heart - maybe he was hurt, idk.

Btw, I was a big JH fan and felt he was under used in ‘23. I thought he would be a great fit in DeBoer’s system but I was wrong or he just didn’t want to be here any longer. I don’t blame him. Saban was gone and tho CKD’s culture seems to be player friendly, it may not be what JH was comfortable with. All of that is fine but I would not use him as an example. Something wasn’t right.

IMO, it may be year 5 before we know what DeBoer’s system really looks like because of the change in OL types.

You keep referring to too much being required of the QB. IMO, that’s not going to be a problem. Look what they’ve done with Ty who they did not recruit. He has some limitations that their guys won’t have. Even his training was under others. Look at the QB recruits they have brought in and are bringing in. I.e., they can evaluate and develop with the best - they may be the best.

Just a general comment not directed towards you: IMO, DeBoer is a very smart man and he’s only in his 4th year at the P4 level and look what he has accomplished. This, even though he inherited 2 good situations, including some real hurdles, it’s really amazing. 46-9, 1 conf champ, 1 NC game, playing for another conf champ, good chance to make another playoff. Has not had time to fully implement his system in either place. Appears to have created a welcoming culture and mentally tough attitude. No talk of anxiety. Was ahead of the curve re: a GM. Creating a player lead program. He inhabits a complicated world and he, like all, is flawed but the outlook is good. Many don’t care, but he is also a great guy.

Well you also have to consider that he was all about us being viewed as a poverty program because we hired G5 coaches in big positions on staff. I think the point is more “he wasn’t my guy, and I want to be right about my opinion of the guy”. Because anyone arguing a criticism of the DeBoer scheme by admitting Justice Haynes in as evidence is ignoring the elephant in the room in that neither Saban nor DeBoer could find a way to get him on the field. So it wasn’t a DeBoer problem

I always cringe every time Saban publicly says his “biggest regret” was leaving LSU.

I’ll just say I wouldn’t trust anything that comes out of Kiffin’s mouth.
Yeah how many times did Kiffin use the word “respect” in his Marty Smith interview? A bunch. Same song, next verse in his LSU presser. All the people he has “great respect” for.

Time and time again, Kiffin shows us he cares only about himself. He has no respect for anyone.
