Link: 2026 Transfer Portal

Here is an idea. There are thousands of guys in the portal and thousands of us poster here everyday. Let's all start evaluating these guys and start a thread breaking down the results. I will start with this guy:

I would love nothing more than to display my lack on knowledge to you all!

It would be like Dynasty mode on CFB 26. Which I also am no good at lol

TIFWIW but Coach Saban is one of the most critical/negative human beings that has ever walked this Earth. If you made a tackle but used improper form, he wasn't happy. If you threw a touchdown but made the wrong read, he wasn't happy. If you were on staff and he heard you laughing in your office, he would chew you out (was directly told this by one of his former Defensive Coordinators). Some of you can live in the "sit back and

I have thought for the last couple of days that we might still be able to salvage a decent size and quality portal class. Unfortunately I am beginning to think this is not likely going to happen. I agree with everyone who has said these players will sign or flip if the money is better some place else. I am now of the opinion these same players have seen Alabama slip since CNS retired. We view Alabama from the die hard, loyal fans standpoint these kids do not and, as someone on here recently said, there is not much confidence in this Alabama coaching staff's ability to turning the program around. Not saying this is going to happen to us, but look at Nebraska, USCw, Tennessee, Penn State, FSU, Florida, and Clemson recent decline.

So maybe we should put the pitchforks down for a bit?
Who has the pitchfork?

I want to be absolutely clear on this. At no point did I say that the HC, OC, or even GM should be fired.

Shall we wait and see?
I'll do you one better. I already said it's not time, well to borrow what Snuffy said, for "pitchforks" unless this team looks bad on the field. Even if this is a bad portal class, the measure of failure or success won't be the portal class it will be that translating to on field results. If DeBoer sucks every year in the portal and kicks butt on the field I won't even be concerned anymore about the portal.

Not sure what your message is here.

I think what he's trying to get at is being negative isn't an inherently bad trait.

I find your posts thought provoking, I don't at all mind a differing point of view. I think there are some posters that are out of bounds a bit sometimes, but I'd like to think there's a really big space for differing opinions without us actually upsetting each other.

Having said all that, let's be clear on this. It ain't over till it's over. The fat lady has not yet sung, and no one has the capability to see the future. All us negative folks and all the positive people are dealing with Schrödinger's cat right now and that's harder for some of us to deal with I suppose.

OL that we're working with right now for the next season.

OUT: (-11)
Proctor - NFL
Brailsford - NFL
Dewberry - NFL
VanDeMark - NFL
Roberts - NFL
Formby - ATM
Montgomery - WKU
Alinen - Kentucky
Ionata - Georgia Tech
Anugwom - Northwestern
DeBose - Vandy

Still there so far:
Carroll
Sanders
Lloyd
Poe
Waldrep

Coming IN: (+2)
Strayhorn - Michigan transfer
Miller - JUCO

Freshmen coming IN: (+4)
Cooley
Fretwell
Doughty
Booker

So we're down 11 and have 6 coming in. If we just match numbers from last year we need another 5 OL.

If we can land them, the names I've seen:
Heywood - from Michigan
Chester - from LSU

Still need 3 more at least.

There are still some good uns out there too. Just need to identify the best and get them on board.

My hope is that the coaches have players lined up and silently committed and that the early swing and misses were just hail mary’s. But as others have pointed out out, if that were the case, why wouldn’t we get them locked in early?

My fallback hope is let’s just sign a couple good/decent OL and DL, add pure depth pieces at WR, and pray our underclasmen can step up and we dont get bit by the injury bug.

I feel like you might be lumping me in with some other people, and that's part of why I made my post. My post was simply about results. For instance, I think something like 15 of the 20 guys that entered the portal from Alabama are signed. The inactivity and lack of signings from Alabama are not the norm. This is not a situation where we are being impatient. Alabama is being slow! This is definitive fact.

I'm not saying there is no plan, I'm saying it's unfolding very slowly and time is running out because players are being signed and the availability pool is getting smaller and smaller.

So, here are the facts we are being cry babies about, and as you pointed out this isn't in a vacuum so we are comparing what Alabama is doing to other programs and wondering what's taking so long.

Alabama has the lowest rated portal class in the SEC. In terms of raw signee numbers, they are one ahead of Georgia who only lost 12 players to the portal.

To understand how slow Alabama is on this, Alabama has 6, Georgia has 5, Tennessee has 9, next closest is 12. Their class is tiny, that's not up for debate that's just fact.

If we zoom out further, Alabama's portal class has slipped to 60th overall. The total number of additions ties them for third least in all of the FBS.

So when you say nothing the staff do will be right, that's not true for me. But, they'd have to do something! I am waiting for that avalanche of additions. I wouldn't even be here if I expected a dumpster fire, I actually had hope they'd get a good RB and make some upgrades on the offensive line. I didn't even start complaining here about this portal class until relatively recently.

Edit: No need to make a new post. No, I don't nor do I claim to. But after Alabama admittedly failed in the portal last year (supposedly what the GM said, not my words), and after Alabama rather publicly lost a commit and then whiffed on a few others, I'm just explaining, with actual numbers mind you why we're concerned.

You don't have to be concerned. You can be happy. You do you man, not trying to bum you out. Just providing an explanation, you can disregard it.
Slow? You know who has signed? The guys who had more money thrown at them than Alabama was offering. Alabama is not in the class of being able to sling money at every player they want and see who bites.

Proves my point, people say the staff can’t miss on evaluations, so it looks like they are being deliberate, and you call them slow.

Definitely getting nervous about OL. We need quality AND bodies. Not just bodies like other positions.

There is no locking these guys in, unless they’ve signed something that is legally binding.

Maybe in the portal realm, the “bama bump” is a bad thing. It draws attention and raises the price of attaining their services.

My point is that being critical of someone or something isn't always a bad thing. If you watched this team this season and thought it was anywhere close to "the standard" of what Alabama football should be, particularly offensively, than you and I have much different expectations. Great teams have an identity and dare you to beat them knowing the whole time what they plan on doing. We had no identity. We called plays. We were the Jackson Pollock of offensive play calling.

DL we're working with for next season:

OUT: (-5)
Overton - NFL
Keenan - NFL
Smith - Portal
Keeley - Notre Dame
Collins - S. Carolina

Returning:
Hill
Beaman
Renaud
Faga
Simmons
MBoumoua
Henry

Coming IN: (+2)
Thompkins - from USC
Bingley Jones - from Miss. State

Freshman coming IN: (+3)
Matthews
Howard
Wilson

Just by flat numbers we're breaking even. But we are relying on freshmen coming in and contributing immediately. Hopefully some of the returning guys get better and make a difference.

Maybe, but I don't believe it. You make it to Alabama and you have done something and everyone knows that thanks to Nick. Plus, have you seen our facilities lately? We are a top program and every player that comes to this top program will get the perceptional Bama bump. I think we are in a good position just need to keep pressing.

Well there's the big guy from Bucknell, Adeyemi. He just said he was offered though, played three games at the FCS level on the oline, just a depth piece but he is a body. But even then yeah they need 4 more for sure. I am hoping for Heywood, they wanted him in the first place so he should be a good fit.

edit:
Borrowing from elsewhere these are two other targets
  • Racin Delgatty, OL, Cal Poly
  • Que McBroom, OL, ULM
