Who's watching the World Cup?

As a newish soccer fan, I still don’t understand what is supposed to be a foul and what is not. Some things that get called look like they were barely touched and acting hurt and something’s that look really bad aren’t called. It’s confusing.

Honestly though, I could probably say the same thing about college basketball.

Especially with all the stoppage and lulls and high definition, there should be consequences for all this flopping, faking, and nonsense.

To me, it would be a much better game if you allowed two balls to be live in play simultaneously. I’d watch that.

This, as is, loses my interest in about 11 minutes. I’ve not made it beyond 11 yet. I’ve tried. I just don’t care for it. Too slow.

Or give points for other things maybe. Something.

After the US scored their second goal to go up 2-0 the announcer said that the US was down 1 man but up 2 balls. For context for those who don’t watch, the US was playing with 1 less player due to a red card. We were like , wait, did we hear that correctly?

Soccer fans often complain about American football being boring because it's too slow...

So much stopping and starting, people just standing around waiting for most of the game, most players not even running a whole mile in the entire game - as opposed to most players running 5-10 miles in a soccer game.

An American Football game features around 15-20 minutes of actual gameplay spread out over more than three hours (sometimes four hours), while a soccer game features around 90 minutes of actual gameplay in about two hours. From their perspective, Soccer is about sport while American Football is about advertising.

While both of those are probably true, I think the American looking at the 90 minutes of soccer gameplay feels like that game play can best be summarized by "....full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

And such a statement - like most when coming from culturally opposed viewpoints - can most accurately be described as a statement based in ignorance...

I was going to come back and say that my statement probably is also how they would describe our football. Instead, I get called ignorant.
