What makes a true Bama fan? I work with a Texas A&M graduate and he is constantly telling me that since I did not graduate from UA that I am not a true Bama fan. He says that I am a t-shirt fan. According to him you have to be an alumni of said school to be a true fan. I decided in the third grade to be a Bama fan. I wanted to go to Bama but had to go to Jacksonville State, it was in the best interest of my parents. So my question is am I a true fan or as my co-worker says, could I only be a true fan of JSU? I live, breathe and follow Bama with a passion. However I can only share few facts about JSU sports. Thoughts anyone? RTR!!!

If it had been me I would've told the guy that he was a closed minded idiot, and plotted to have him fired.

Not everyone can afford to attend the UofA. I'm here on student loans and the grace of The Almighty.

Second, this may not always be the best school for you to go for your desired trade. Case-in-point, my brother aspires to become a vet, and he'll eventually have to attend Auburn for that.

Third, college isn't for everyone.

Tell him to take a philosophy class so he'll learn to open his mind a bit.

What he is trying to say is that he comes from a school that does not have the football tradition that Alabama does. He does not understand how someone can be a fan of Texas A&M wthout going to school there. He does not understand that people are drawn to a winner like BAMA!!:BigA:

College is getting more expensive by the semester!

20 years ago a college education was enough to live the American Dream...

Now a college education is considered by many to be as valuable as a high school education...

In order to make certain that you live the American Dream you must take the next step in higher education by gaining your graduate degree or going to medical school, dental school, law school...ect,

Seriously,

Everyone cannot attend college b/c our society isn't structured that way...

Someone has to collect garbage, install carpets or work at Wal-Mart,

A true Bama Fan doesn't have to be an Alumnus!

AFAIC, a "real" Bama fan is anyone who defines him/herself as such and throw his/her heart into it. There have always been folks who set themselves up as judge and jury as to what is a "real" Bama fan. I've always been suspicious of those who judge others. Call it a biblical thing. All of us who are Bama grads have relatives who aren't grads but are still huge fans. When it comes to grads of other schools who presume to judge who is and who is not a "real" Bama fan, that's just laughable. They don't know what they're talking about. By definition...

Yess to UAMDB1 you listen. Mmmmhuh! The barn is your quintessential candidate for using this logic. As far as atm their little plastic cards and green currency bends them even further into suffering without rewards. Again think pasture manure, manhood envy, truth of reality spinnings, limited i.q.'s and defensive illogical behavior. Does this not sound familiar? They cannot help their ignorant ways and yearn to understand what true fandom encompasses. They are to the longhorns what the barn is to jerry springer.

So I guess that means there are no "real" fans in Professional sports then...

My best friend (Barner) tried to tell me this was true of most Bama fans....dumb. I only needed to remind him that the guy he goes and sits with to AU games (both season ticket holders) never graduated. DOH…..there went that theory.

Tell him this:
"If you can afford to go to college; You probably don't need to"
But you can still be a True fan.

They only say this because they have a small fan base and only people that attend that school are fans, obviously not the case with us :)

If you watch every play of every game and know how to match every name with every # , that's more than enough to be a true fan to me . I get more than a little embarrassed when a "fan" asks .....

"How good is John Doe going to be this year ?" . Gee , I don't know . He graduated two years ago .:eek2::p_evil::rolleyes:

Wow, good for John. Every time I hear of him he keeps turning up dead. They even make television shows about him. Of course, for some reason it always turns out to be someone else. He must have common features or something for people to keep mistaking everyone for him. Anyway, thanks LCN, I was wondering about him and glad to hear he is graduated and doing well! :p :biggrin2:

Don't listen to those idiots. Many grew up and could not attend the Bama because of tuition, grades, or other various reasons. Doesn't mean you can't be a fan.

I am a Dolphins fan, but don't live in Miami. Can I do that? :rolleye2:

Bama has a national following. I have met Bama fans everywhere in my travels. It is one of the reasons why Bama has been on TV nationwide so much. Some schools have a regional following (at best), or a city following (or half a city) at worse.
