Bama Hats

If I'd never left the US, I wouldn't know about bread. In most countries, at least European, but it extends to the Mediterranean, bread is still the "staff of life." And they make it worth eating - not just squishy white paste. Somewhere along the way, we dropped the ball, uh, the loaf - probably carrying it in our right hand around the five yard line...

And - one of our few real ethnic breads, cornbread, seems to be going down the tubes, also. Thank god for Cracker Barrel.

It is better to die a boy than to fumble this loaf of bread.

Here's one with orange in it.

Lord, I miss good bread in this country. I bought a baguette yesterday at Publix and that's about as close as you can come. I just got back from almost three weeks in Scandinavia, with the enormous breakfast spreads - four or five meats, cold and hot, sunny-side eggs, fruit, cereals and melk, several different cheeses - and five or so different breads, with the knife and the napkin to drape over the loaf while you saw away. And it's just not Scandinavia, it's really all of Europe. We just don't understand bread over here. I can bake my own - and do - but it'd be nice to be able to buy it also... /rant

Mmmmmmm, bread.

Since the subject has become a little more about bread and this is a football forum, I would like to say that JPW has done a good job of placing the ball in all of the running back's "bread baskets." :biggrin2:

You know I can hear it now, 15 years from now somebody will be talking football, and something is going to come up about forums, then Tidefans, then it's going to progress into a conversation about posts. And someone is going to say I was a part of the Infamous Hat Thread of 07. Did you know it was responsible for saving 22 lives that year. The strain alone on the mental health profession in Alabama was at a all time fracture point. That thread kept people from killing one another, fighting amongst them selves and from burning some of the media guy's at the stake. I can see the day the Nobel peace prize will no longer be give out. It will be the Tidefans.com Humanitarian Hat award, honoring the greatest achievements of man. So when you post in this thread, remember you are part of history. Thank you , and good night.

Ahhhh.......the hat thread. Man's simple refrain from the day to day doldrums that occupy the mind, drain the body, and tick along the human clock of aging.

Hat threads have been amongst through out all civilization:

Quick glances at the walls of the pyramids reveal numerous types of hats in various sizes drawn along chambers and corridors- an obvious attempt to escape the pressures of the corporate thumb being pressed upon all facets of society in order to construct what has become in modern day to be Super Walmarts.

Notice the Hindu temples, and some of the head attire that is worn on the statues of gods and goddesses- again- use of the hat in order to achieve spiritualization and a complete oneness with time, space, and nature.

In Victorian times, the hat was frequently replaced with wigs, a crucial mistake in the development of the English and French Empires. Had hats remained the head covering of choice, we might all be referring to officers as "Bobby" or eating our fries with mayonnaise:frown:!

So to all our hat thread posters everywhere, be proud, use this as a sounding box for your fears, frustrations, dilemmas, successes, agonies, victories and head apparel choices.

So long and Rolllll Tide.

Why is it women don't wear hats anymore? Aside from wearing a Bama hat to games on occasion, the thought doesn't even cross my mind to add a hat to an outfit. Remember the days when both men and women wore hats as part of daily life, just as much a part of their attire as their shoes would be?

Now that was cool.

Back to bread for a moment, Germans consider bread to be their national dish. Of course, they also see themselves as being picked on by other nations and by their own bureaucrats. An idea which surrounding nations find a bit odd. They even have a national character, sort of like Uncle Sam or John Bull, but he's a guy in a night shirt everybody kicks around...
