Despite those facts and that the University of Mississippi football team has a 2-7 overall record and is in danger of posting its first winless SEC record since 1982, school Chancellor Robert Khayat remains adamant: Ed Orgeron will be back next fall for his fourth season as the Rebels' head coach.

"Unless something completely insane happens - and I mean like breaking the law or something - (Orgeron) will be our football coach next year," Khayat said. "It's not going to have anything to do with wins or losses this season. We believe he's taking this program in the right direction."

Well seeing how many coaching positions are going to be/probably open after this year--realistically, how far down the list would Ole Miss be in the line to get some of the better coaches out there. I can think of at least four. Might be better to keep Coach O for now, make changes next year.

Nebraska
Michigan
Arkansas (prolly)
TAMU (prolly)
UNC (if Davis takes Arky)

I think they are making the right call. Ole Miss may not be a good team yet, but they are making strides in the correct direction. If you look at where Ole Miss was a year ago compared with where they are now, they are light years better (especially on offense).

Good point.

TAMU (prolly)
I'm don't think there's a "prolly" to that one. I think it's a done deal. ;)

Aubarn will be open if Tubby takes the TAMU job, but would Tubby seriously consider it? I find all the Tubberville to TAMU ideas to be far fetched.

I agree, though TAMU doe shave the cash to get him if they really want him.

I think Sexton will just use this to get Tubs a raise.

They don't have any choice but to retain him.

Look at their last coaching search. They were looking to replace a coach who had, what, one losing season? Cutcliffe, as goofy as his recent comments may be, was the second best coach they've ever had over there. And they let him go because of one losing season?

During that last coaching search, they were well down their list when they got to Orgeron. No one wanted that job then. And if they let this guy go after three years, no quality coach will EVER want that job.

They have no choice. Crazy Eddie's there for at least one year, maybe more.

"You tell 'em, JoJo."

That's not even taking into account the domino effect, which as has been mentioned, could create HC openings at AU, LSU, etc...

Re: Ole Miss Chancellor Khayat: "Orgeron will be our football coach next year"

The Ole Miss coaching scenario reminds me of the story of the Golden Goose. It actually goes well with them, being they play for the "Golden Egg" every year.

Granted, Cutlciffe is no golden egg, but he had one in Eli Manning.

I think the Ole Miss fanbase/boosters became so spoiled with the success they had with Eli Manning, that when they had that 4-7 year after he left (2004), they thought they could "cut the goose" to get more golden eggs. They ended up killing the goose, thus no more golden eggs.

Cutcliffe might not have been the best head coach, but he was their best head coach since Johnny Vaught. He should have been given a couple of more years.

Personally, I hope they keep him as long as possible.

I think you guys are missing the big picture here . . . the guy had to clarify what he meant by "insane" when talking about Coach O.

However, I can't help but think there's a Mississippi sheriff somewhere reading that line and thinking, "finally . . . here's my chance to help!"

I personally think the Chancellor has thought long and hard about this issue and has arrived at the correct decision. In fact, I hope he thinks about it some more and offers Coach O an extension to his current contract. I think they have the right man for a program of Ole Miss's caliber.

I agree, for the caliber of Ole Miss, Coach O is the man.

I doubt that Old Myth would be a viable contender for any candidates those schools might go after. The only thing they have going for them is that they're a member of the SEC. Without that, they don't have much going for them. Their best chance to hit a home run for a coaching hire would be to get lucky with an up-and-coming young assistant.

Don't forget that MONEY TALKS !!!!!

Ole Tubby would walk if there was enough cash on the table.
