State is rested, Alabama recovering from tough loss
I get the feeling, though, that some of the local media aren't buying it. What's lost in the frenzy over State beign bo eligible, the truth is they aren't...yet. And, State fans are counting their chickens before they hatch. State still has to win at least one game either against Alabama, Arkansas, or Ole Miss. It's possible that they don't win any more this season (Ole Miss always gets up for the Egg Bowl, no matter what the record).
Personally, with all the lip the State fans have been yapping, I would like nothing more than to see State lose out.
Over here, I've been hearing that since last Sunday from their fans. The query boiled down to this: Will an off week for Mississippi State, coupled with Alabama coming off a physically draining loss to LSU, mean the time is right for a big Bulldog win?
Croom paused.
"Well, that'll be interesting," Croom said. "I think the big factor in this game as far as that goes is who goes out there and hits the hardest and doesn't turn the football over. I think all this other stuff is - on gameday, all these other things, I don't put a lot into that."
So heading into Saturday's game against No. 21 Alabama (6-3, 4-2 SEC) at Scott Field, know that Croom is at least on record as saying the timing of the game on each team's schedule will have little to do with the outcome.
Not that it'll keep fans from believing in such a concept.
