INHO,,,,,, IF they want him they get him. It'll be now or never, even if he wanted to stay at lsu, he could not take that risk.

Fishhead,

I am with you. I said all along that Miles would go to Michigan in a heartbeat, but that the Wolverines would not offer him the job. Obviously, that is no longer the case. They didn't ask permission to speak with him to see how he enjoyed his cup of coffee. They will speak to him, give him the offer, and I imagine he'll take it on the spot. I just can't see any way he would turn the job down, and I can't see how there is any way how Michigan won't give him a firm offer. To me, and feel free to disagree, the writing is on the wall that he is gone. It's just a matter of when and how he leaves now. And whether or not he goes out a winner.

Also, I found an old article on ESPN.com talking about Del Rio's interest in 2005. It states that his wife is from Lafayette, and that he has a step-daughter who "recently graduated" -- circa 2005 -- from LSU. I'm not sure if he still has a daughter at LSU, or whether or not it's his actual daughter or his adopted daughter.

I don't think Del Rio will be the guy, mind you, but I don't think it will be out of a lack of interest.

Any chance for guys like Gary Pinkel or Mark Mangino? They've done well at schools that aren't traditional powerhouses, to say the least.

Mangino has done nothing but lose to the only ranked team he played this year. Not enough to sway me.

Yes, obviously, we did, but that doesn't mean that is the ideal strategy. It worked out for us because Saban came, but had he not came we might have been royally screwed by trying that strategy. Also, it's a strategy that is very rarely used, and probably with good reason. Going without a head coach for over a month is generally not the best idea.

Moreover, we ended up waiting over a month because the man we offered the head coaching job (Rich Rodriguez) bailed out at the last minute. It's not that we really wanted to wait a month, but after Rodriguez bailed we figured we might as well stick around and take a shot at Saban. For better or for worse, our strategy was to hire Rodriguez and let Saban stay in Miami. It was only when Rodriguez bucked our offer that we had to alter the strategy to wait for over a month on Saban. That was not initially what we wanted to do.

I highly doubt LSU makes a legitimate offer to someone and they get turned down in a very public denial, ala Rodriguez.

I would think, assuming Miles leaves for Michigan by the middle of next week, LSU would hire someone before December 20th or so. I would not think that job would stay open any longer than a couple of weeks, barring some very unforeseen circumstances.
Some might disagree in regards to the Rich Rodriguez situation at Bama. I have heard a hypothesis in which Mal and some others felt very strongly that they would be able to get Nick Saban. There was another camp of the powers that be who were getting nervous about waiting should Nick Saban have a change of heart who thought it best to go after what they thought to be the best available coach who could come in immediately(RR). While Mal went through the motions of offering (RR) and subsequently allowing him to go back to WV to think it over(and get a counter offer from WV) in his heart he hoped and expected RR to ultimately go back to WV. This silenced the group that was pushing for a quick hire and gave him the time to put the Saban deal together.
This comes from a fairly reliable source of mine who also was telling me Shula was gone well before it was known. Take it for what it's worth, I don't have concrete evidence, but why else would Mal have let RR go back to WV without an answer? Even Mal is smart enough to know better than that. I'm not saying that Mal sabotaged the RR deal, but I think he got the guy he wanted from day 1. Had RR accepted he would be the coach today, but he wasn't Mal's first choice. Moral of the story: Nick Saban was not our second choice, or plan b as it were. I could take this farther by telling you that NS had his people(sexton) contact us prior to the MSU game gauging our interest should the position come open, possibly helping push support towards letting Shula go.

I just clicked a link on another board to Tiger Droppings. There is a thread with more than one person saying that Miles has told the players that he is going to Michigan and that the news will break soon.

I highly doubt that a coach would do that to his team right before the SECC game but stranger things have happened.

If that is true he is a bigger idiot than I thought. Why would anyone do that to a team looking at the SECCG?:eek2::eek2:

Now you went and did it. I hope Don Shula doesn't get wind of the last sentence in your post. If so he may just have some really nasty things to say about CNS. :D

doc, your friend has very reliable information. And contrast the way CMM handled things with CNS - camping out outside his house for hours...

Believe NOTHING from Tigerdroppings.com...NOTHING!!:p_lol: It is my guess that if anything was said to the players by Miles, it is that he is going to TALK to UM about the job next week.:pDT_popc1:

I don't believe anything over there. I just like to go watch the chase their tails and yell at one another. I believe your scenario to be more plausible, but I still question why it was mentioned before the SECCG.

Believe me I wont believe a HC is that stupid until something credible comes from a reputable source. There are several posters claiming to have reliable info that he told the players. I believe one of the posters even said a player told him that CLM told the team. Why in the world would you tell your team right before the SECC game? If he is going to UM, I am sure he would wait to announce after that game.

Tiger Droppings is not reputable or a place I would normally go for any info and especially link to this board. I just went there to read the info that was linked on another board. I only mentioned it as the source of the info.

Oh I know...I just notice that a lot of people here use Tigerdroppings as a source of all things LSU...and that, well...scares me.:p_lol:

For those of you that don't know, the message board at Tigerdroppings is called the "Rant", and posters there are known as "Rantards". Need I say more??:p_eyes:

There's a lot of talent in that state and they'll get the lion's share every year. IF they have to reload with a new coach, they know, as well as we do, that it's a set-back...
There is a ton of talent in the state and whether LSU likes it or not, these rumors of Miles leaving are hurting them on some key recruits. In fact, Saban made a visit over to NE LA earlier in the week and you know he was there to poach LSU leans. Bottom line, I think LSU will whether the storm just fine either way but should Miles in fact leave, there is going to be some recruits that go elsewhere.

They quote tigerdroppings when they want to cast LSU in the worst possible light.

It's an insult board, with more retarded comments than a Lou Holtz commentary.
