I thought it would be interesting to compile some stats on the different types of browsers used on the site. Obviously, those with the most current version of browsers (particularly MSIE 7 & Firefox 3) will have the best user experience based on how we code the site. There are probably some 'hiccups' that occur for all browsers at any given time for certain functions, but upgrading to the latest browsers usually works best.

Here's the breakdown for the month of July thus far:

This table shows the operating system + browser + browser version and % of
Rank|Browser_Combination|% Used
1|XP_MSIE_7|35.3
2|XP_MSIE_6|25.2
3|WinNT_MSIE_7|11.3
4|XP_Firefox_2.0.0.15|7.0
5|XP_Firefox_3.0|5.4
6|Win2000_MSIE_6|1.7
7|XP_Firefox_2.0.0.14|1.7
8|WinNT_Firefox_3.0|1.6
9|WinNT_Firefox_2.0.0.15|1.5
10|XP_AOL9_7|0.8
11|Mac_OS_X_Safari_525.18|0.6

This table shows the Browser 'brand' and the % Used
Browser |% Used
MSIE|74.7
Firefox|20.8
Safari|2.6
AOL|1.5
Netscape|0.1

I'd like to add that the latest version of each browser is more secure than the last one, even when that one is fully patched. IOW, IE7 is safer than IE6++, and FF3 is safer than FF2++.

Wonder why my FF3 on my Ubuntu laptop doesn't seem to be showing up? Perhaps the % is too low?

I'm curious how many real geeks (i.e. linux users) we have on the site.

Doesn't surprise me to see more IE than anything else. I know I'm on more at work than I am at home and I bet most workplaces, as mine does, use IE. I use Firefox at home.

I'm part of a segment that's so small as to not even been ranked: OSX10.411 browsing with Camino. I have Safari and FF3, but I like Camino, which is heavily Mac-centric.

wah hahahaha there are people using aol to get on the internet??? wow cro magnons truly haven't gone extinct.
Yup, that's me. :)

I never could see why people think it's fun to learn new programs and upgrades, etc., on the computer. AOL has everything I want/need. And if they still supported it, I'd probably still be using the old DOS 3 version I learned it with, in the first place....I sure was mad when they quit supporting that!

Well, actually, no--I guess I couldn't get streaming video if I was still using DOS, so I couldn't see the stuff on Crimson Tradition and Tidesports...So I'm glad broadband got invented, even though setting up my computer to receive it like to have killed me. :)
