Re: Terrance Cody Playing Offense

Most peeps get hurt in football because they don't play through the end of the play. Take it from an ex-o lineman, cody could play o-line on run plays, passing situations would be more difficult b/c of picking up the blitz and stunts.

As for him running the ball...remember the frig? If he can hold on to it then let him have the rock and let's see who wants to wake up next week with a Nike swish on his chest....

He didn't really find anyone to block. I think they just cowered and caved... :D
I noticed that also. It was like the Red Sea parting for Moses. Although, I don't blame any defensive player from getting out of the way!

You worry too much.

agreed. i mean, seeing TC out there at FB is just pure excitement and fun. Who else in all of college football can be described as either being an Immovable object or an Unstoppable force? whatever happens, we can not change, just enjoy the match up with whoever TC is dominating. RTR!:BigA:

I'm all for it! If nothing else it creates a tremendous distraction for the opposing team. :BigA:

And as far as using him on 2 point conversions, brilliant! Again the distraction factor would be...HUGE!!

Re: Terrance Cody Playing Offense

Just imagine the guy after a full offseason in CNS's S&C program. What we've seen of him so far is basically Cody in JUCO shape.

I agree. I think Terrance will be a top 5 pick in the NFL Draft after next season after another year of working with Coach Saban.

That is the thing that is helping our recruiting efforts so much. If you want to play on Sundays play for Coach Saban today.

PS- I love seeing Terrance play offense. No worries about injury (except to the opposition :))

Can he handle the double duty? I mean, is he in good enough shape for it? I realize you guys rotate 8 on your front 4, so I am just wondering...

Seeing as how he's only been in the backfield 2-3x all year, I think he can handle it. And if we used him more regularly, how many plays in a game are you inside the 2 yard line? Because that's when we want to see TC in there.

So to answer your question, regardless of your size, an extra 2 plays a game can be handled, especially after CNS's conditioning.

Thanks for the info. I hope they play him more than that, for the Utes sake. :D

As a side note, I saw Eric Weddle play over 90 snaps in a game a couple of years ago...very cool. :)

Re: Terrance Cody Playing Offense

'Lectric, he rotates in and out. Chapman plays most obvious passing downs. He's something like 310, so, lighter than Cody, but he's the strongest man on the team. Most opposing DCs who've commented have said they saw no drop-off when Chapman came in. However, when Chapman had to play as the 1st string, with one of our other, lighter players shifted over when Cody was hurt, there was a drop-off...

Really? MtC might be a little pleasantly plump, but he is a phenomenal physical specimen. No other player in the SEC (maybe the nation) has similar strength and mass paired with the same degree of (relative) agility and speed. He outweighs me by 150 lbs, and I can't dunk a basketball (anymore). Maybe you can. He can handle 2-3 more plays a game.

Do you guys ever alternate between a 3-4 and a 4-3 with your rotations?

Come on. I realize he is one hell of an athlete. I would love to have him on the Utes. But you can't tell me the guy isn't overweight!

In my humble opinion we should leave the coaching to the coaches, the playing to the players, and the worrying to the opponents.

For the record his name is spelled Terrence or Mt. Cody. I personally have corrected this misspelling at least 20 times in titles this season and I am probably one of the worst spellers on Tide Fans. ;)

Sure he's overweight, if you go by some artificial measuring stick like the BMI. But then again, so is every offensive lineman and defensive tackle in the game post-high school. The fact remains that the guy has gone from 410 lbs. in high school, to a rumored 425 in JuCo, down to 385 when he signed with Bama, then his current svelte 365-370.

He plays one of the most strenuous positions in the game - full-body contact with other ridiculously large men, straining every muscle, ligament and nerve - every down he's on the field. In JuCo he max benched 400, and we don't know how much he could squat. The coaches stopped him from racking 700, as the bar was bending dangerously when he put up 660 without any trouble. He runs the 40 in the mid-5's, and can dunk a basketball with relative ease. Endurance is a factor with him, of course, but 2-3 isolated plays over the course of a game? He could handle it.

Do you guys ever alternate between a 3-4 and a 4-3 with your rotations?
Sometimes, depending on the situation. Coach Saban's preferred 3-4 base defense gives him a lot of flexibility, lots of options and looks; and he excels at concealing coverages and assignments from opposing coaches and QB's. Some variation of Cover-1 "Robber" (or "Rat" as CNS tends to call it) is one of the more common schemes, and the Jack player (if there is one on the field) or a LB sometimes will put a hand down or crowd up on the edge. The end result looks like a 4-2-5 as often as a true 4-3, but again, it depends on the defensive playcall and the situation.

Tally answered this accurately above. And, BTW, his BB dunk is not just straight forward - he can do a 360 dunk. He also can jump standing and dunk a football over the crossbar effortlessly. Before you disparage him further, you might want to wait until after the game. I'll guarantee you that you'll have a bit more respect then...
