Protests in Iran are entering their third week, as tens of thousands continue to take to the streets despite a deadly crackdown. President Trump said the death toll “appears significant," and Western officials say at least 2,000 have been killed. That would make these protests the deadliest since the 1979 revolution, and analysts say they could threaten the regime itself. Nick Schifrin reports.

Bloomberg:

Iran is witnessing its biggest populist uprising since 1979 as widening unrest and a bloody government crackdown destabilize the country and the region, with potential consequences for energy markets.

Last night I saw on Youtube that there is a flood of C-17s and even an AC-130 at RAF Fairford in the UK.
Not sure if everyone knows what an AC-130 is.
No idea why they are at RAF Fairford. Could be an exercise. Could be simply as a threat to the mullahs to mind their Ps & Qs with no real intention to employ the AC-130.

The problem is like most everything… the most centralized power wins 99% of the time. Iran has very little alternatives to the regime and like the hijab protests Iran will probably just go back to status quo unless there are significant pushes towards a new government.

I have no problem with supporting the protestors but bombing Iran will probably backfire.
Maybe it will backfire, but it didn't last time. If they go after the military and government command and control the crowds will cheer them.

1. We can't pay for it 2. The bombs and missiles we may use probably can't be replaced due to the embargo on rare earth elements for weapons by China 3. We probably haven't considered alternatives such as a oil embargo because China is a major customer. 4. No one respects a country willing to fly over and drop bombs but isn't willing to get its hands dirty. 5. Trump doesn't care about anyone so this is must be designed to take peoples minds off of Epstein and inflation in the grocery aisles.

Just like previous missions/actions, the Pentagon has been planning for months and months on what will happen.

Working out various scenarios.

Based on what we have seen so far I have confidence on whatever decisions are made.

6. My throat's sore. 7. I've had a sore throat for a month and a half. 8. And this is not an acoustic
environment that's suitable to request this from me.

Like they did in Afghanistan in 2002 and Iraq 2003….. oh wait
Apples and oranges. I’m surprised you don’t see the difference. Those were invasions and overthrows of those governments by force. Iran has a huge uprising by the population supporting them without putting boots on the ground and letting them finish the job with a little side help isn’t a realistic comparison. Try again because that effort holds no water.

People cheering doesn’t mean anything is the point. Invasion or direct military force effectively takes the power out of the people and makes this a US led uprising. We and the British have meddled in Persian politics and supported pro west uprisings… what did it get us? The current government of Iran. So why does anyone believe that another US supported uprising isn’t going to create another far right opposition to the government that we help put in place? And speaking on that specifically… what is the new government? Because it’s easy to have a plan to overthrow the violent dictator but it’s much more difficult to make a government afterwards. Revolutionary governments aren’t stable governments in most cases.

Might be just buying time to get a carrier in there......

These are the approximate positions of the U.S. Navy’s deployed carrier strike groups and amphibious ready groups throughout the world as of Jan. 12, 2026, based on Navy and public data. In cases in which a CSG or ARG is conducting disaggregated operations, the chart reflects the location of the capital ship.
