New OL Coach - Who would You Hire???

This ****** me off when I hear people saying that we can't afford to not make a change at OL. This OL coaching change has been beat to death to the point that I'm sick of hearing about it.

Bottom line: There will be changes. There will be some changes on staff that some of you would not be happy with. We get it. We heard you guys. we've heard it over 1,000 time. We know changes are coming on staff. The coaching staff were not happy with OL production this year. You saw what they did with OL. Told everyone to kick rocks and brought in better players. They're fixing it on the player side. Now they're going to address the coaching part soon. BE PATIENT. Don't make a statement and then set yourself up for unrealistic expectations only to find out you were disappointed with their efforts replacing coaches on staff.

The new revised coaching staff will be focused on developing those players, and ability to recruit as well. Gotta have both.

My wish for the coaches: Just develop those guys. Just get them to play better. That's all I care about. That's it.

Here's a question for you: How many times Saban has made underwhelming hires and fan bases didn't like it.. and it turned out to work out well? Be prepared for that.
So you are saying when I'm introduced as new OL coach, folks won't like it???

Totally agree!

I remember Coach Pendry's first season and how I thought he needed to go. The next season was totally different and looking back, it turns out he was one of the best to ever coach OL at the Capstone!

I really like what little I have seen so far and will patiently wait to see the results... 😎

Just a reminder... just a reminder:

you know who coached that OL that year? Coach Kap. Changes made or not... just be open mind.
If we had KW3 at RB we would be playing on Monday night even with the OL we have. But that was more KW3 than the OL.

Here's the problem with this line of thought - i.e. coaches bringing in better players.

last year, we had a first round pick in Booker, a projected first round pick in Proctor, a highly regarded C, and Roberts who was getting 2nd or 3rd round draft grades. at least 3 of those guys will likely have good NFL careers and Brailsford might if he can somehow get a bit bigger/stronger and we drastically underperformed in the traditional run game. Sure, we lost booker, but VDM was supposed to be the fill in and had played reasonably well leading into the season. The staff changed some parts out from that, and we got way, way worse. As much as we'd like to trust the coaches, the experience and production on field hasn't exactly led to a warm fuzzy feeling.

Question @gtgilbert : in looking at the Oline transfers, does it seem like the “more athletic type” player we have heard the past two years that CKD wants in his system? I’m not an expert by any means, but it doesn’t seem that way to me.
I’m starting to think (and I could be way off base) that after two years CKD might be modifying his approach somewhat given the physical nature of play at the LOS in this conference.
Thoughts?
No, we went the Jumbo route in the portal.

I think Brailsford will make it, thee were 10 centers in the league between 293 and 300lbs, five of those were 6-2, 6-3. He fits in around that.
The center position is the key. I remember in the mid to late 20teens, don’t Remember the center, but (maybe Ryan?) came in and immediately the line played better. The same thing happened when Seth came in for Dalcourt.

None of this will matter unless the run game becomes more than just an appendage to the offense. Call Mike McDonald and ask him what he thinks will happen.

Let's get one thing real clear. This message board is for opinions other than just yours. What we're not going to have is for you or anyone else start singling out posters differing opinions, then go on a four paragraph rant about what "****** you off" about that opinion. You are not the board hall monitor or official authority on all things Alabama football. If you dont think youve come across that way, let me enlighten you, you have and it needs to stop. Youve dogmatically repeated yourself a "1,000 times" on many things on this board and in many cases in a know it all way.

Your opinion and whatever insight you have is welcomed and appreciated. But youre not the only one on this board with opinions and insight. You dont need to try and be the board authority on how many times somethings been said. We've got moderators to do that. Let them do their jobs and let them make those type of decisions.

Somehow, I don't think this one will reach 140 pages like the portal thread before we are all satisfied. Look, we are not a bunch of geniuses here. Coach sees what is going on not to mention the entire fanbase is preaching the same thing...got to be able to run the flipping football in this league. We should know next week who the new coaches are. I expect a new OL and Strength coach. Their task is narrowly defined. Fix the running game and make the offense go!

How many runs do you want called when the running attack is absolutely terrible? When the running game worked Grubb called plenty of running plays. The only problem was the only competition they could do that on was the out of conference weak teams.

he may and I am sure he'll get a shot to show what he can do. he's assignment sound and has decent leverage. I'm afraid that his listed height and weight are both somewhat generous, but we'll see when we get the official NFL measurements.
